Fabric for Quilting and more
The closest thing I've ever donec to quilting is sewing a WHO patch onto some torn jeans when I was in High School. I can also sew buttons back onto my shirts with a needle and thread - and that's it.
Then I met my wife, who's sister is an incredibly talented Quilter. The both of them, and my mother-in-law, are all creative and enjoy sewing. So it shouldn't have been much of a surprise when we started taking trips to Lancaster Quilt Show, in nearby Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The prospect of spendng a day looking at quilts, and then another 2 days shopping for fabric (we went for a 3 day weekend), was not all that exciting. But since this was one of my wife's interests, I was more than willing to go and 'experience it'.
You don't have to be able to sew a stitch to admire the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into quilt making. Much more than simple geometric patterns, there were intricate designs and some quilts even recreated garden scenes. I was amazed.
Several years, and quilt shows later, I can still only sew buttons onto my shirts, but I now know about fat quarters, battiques, and a whole lot more. Although my fabric suggestions tend to elicit laughs from my wife, while she tries to coordinate colors for a new quilt, I still like to help. I get to carry the bolts to the cutting table.

Don't you just LOVE fabric?

If you like to quilt or sew, fabric is the raw material that brings your visions to life.
You don't just walk into a fabric store and look around. You spend hours studying, admiring, mixing & matching, and even 'fondling' every bolt that catches your eye.
Whether it's a quilt of your own design, or you something you just saw at a local Quilt Show fabric (and your passion for creativity) is what makes it all possible.
By the way, that's me carrying a few bolts for my wife in Lancaster PA.
