Have You Said These Words? There Is Help
Hello there my name is Nicole and I have been there saying "help me stop drinking alcohol." It can be a tough road but it is one that you can overcome and totally dominate. I am living proof that hope does exist and belive me if I can do it then so can you.
First thing is first, you have to decide you want to stop and my guess is you do if you are visiting this page. That is the most important step beacause without that it will never happen. Nobody can make you do it, the choice is all yours. It would be nice if someone could do it for you though huh? I've been there.
Ok so you have decided to quit now what? You need to rid yourself of anyone and anything that causes you to use or want to use. This could be one of the hardest things to do but if anyone is interested in your health and well being they will understand. All your party buddies the ones that thats all you do with, you need to let them go. Anyone that you feel may make it harder for you to quit you need to let go. Places that you drink or use or trigger you to want to drink or use you need to stay away from. Now I'm not telling you to up and quit your job if you have used there, I know as well as anyone bills have to be paid but if it is an unhealthy enviorment for you then you should start looking for another job. The most important thing right now is for you to stop drinking or using and stay quit, thats what you need to be thinking about. Surround yourself with positive healthy people and positive places. Make yourself accountable to somebody you trust. Someone you can call when your having a hard time or when you just did something good and someone that will call you just to check in and see how things are. You can get a sponsor if your choosing to do a 12 sep group or you can ask a friend or a family member if they can be there for you. It is very important you have some support. Also start finding things you enjoy doing (not drinking or using) and start doing them. Find something that makes you smile. I know somedays will be harder than others but just know that this does get easier it really does. Life isn't always a bed of roses that is just a fact and the sooner you accept that and choose to do something different when the going gets tough the sooner you will be living a happy substance free life.

5 Tips To Help You Stop Drinking
1. Establish Your GoalsWhat are your personal reasons for wanting to drink less? Are you beginning to notice the ugly effects of binge drinking and want to improve your health, appearance and image? Write down your thoughts and let this be a guide for setting some goals. Whether it is to stay away from drinking events, participate in controlled drinking, or stop drinking altogether, make sure you know why you are doing this - and make sure the reason is for you, not anyone else, or else you won't be as successful.
2. Get Support
Drinking is often a social event, especially during the holidays, so make sure to let your friends and family know that you have some new rules concerning your drinking habits. This will save you from having to face temptations at parties, get-togethers and other events with family and friends. If you think you'll have an especially hard time with controlled drinking or stopping altogether, make sure to have one close buddy who understands and fully supports your commitment.
3. Take a Break
In the quest to reduce your alcoholic intake, try setting aside one day a week where you won't be drinking alcohol. Once this single day becomes easy, make it two days, then three days, then a week. Breaking up your larger goal into smaller goals is not any less of a commitment. Instead, it may actually help you to stick with your goal much longer.
4. Ward off Temptations
When do you tend to drink? Is it at parties or is it when you're alone? Make sure you understand what your temptations are and then devise simple plans to avoid them. Try substituting yummy non-alcoholic drinks and do the same at home. Otherwise, replace your drinking habits with other constructive hobbies, such as exercising, reading, painting, or whatever it is that you enjoy.
5. Don't Give Up
Nowhere in this article did I say it would be easy to stop drinking! Keep your goals in mind along with the reasons you even set these goals in the first place. If you have too many drinks one night, don't let it spoil the goal you're reaching for. Just get right back on track the next day. When you fail yourself, just remember this quote by Robert F. Kennedy: "Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly." You will succeed if you truly want to get your drinking habits under control and stop drinking altogether.
