UCLA UniCamp

UCLA UniCamp is the official student charity of UCLA. Each year, UniCamp inspires nearly 1,000 children from low-income families in the Los Angeles area to envision brighter futures by sending them, along with 350 student volunteers, to its residential outdoor summer camp. For over 75 years, UniCamp volunteers have harnessed the healing power of the wilderness to improve their community and deliver challenging new experiences that foster personal growth and transform lives. Campers and students learn that they can reach their full potential, often beyond what they thought possible, and to make a positive impact in their community. To achieve this result, we emphasize building relationships, leadership and character development, and just plain fun.

Camp runs on generous donations from people like YOU!

I am privileged to be in my 4th year of volunteering for UniCamp. In the past, I have been a camp counselor, archery specialist, and this year I will be teaching campers how to work as a team through lessons in sailing. To assist each youth in attending camp, we fundraise the majority of the costs for them. It describes all things that encompass the wholesome goodness of camp!

Why MegaPhone? All volunteers and campers have camp names that they go by rather than their real given names. Years ago, a camper decided he wanted his name to be Smart. When a counselor asked him why he chose that name, he said it was because no one had ever called him smart before. In camp, we encourage the idea that options are limitless!
