Improve Kids Behaviour By Getting A Little Help With Parenting

Ever wish you had a magic bullet to put a stop to bad behaviour and get a little help with parenting to magically turn your kids into little angels?

If only it were that easy!

But research has shown that there are some proven techniques that will curb the bad behaviour and without resorting to traditional punishment and discipline techniques.

Causes Of Bad Behaviour

All parents need to deal with tantrums sometimes. There are many causes for bad behavior and in many cases the cause can be traced back to one of the following:

Diet: We all know that kids start to go a bit nuts when they have too much sugar. Reducing or eliminating sugar from the diet will stabilise blood sugar levels. Note that 100% fruit juice has high levels of sugar too.

Exercise: Kids have a whole lot of energy. If they are not given the chance to work it off then you can expect the pent-up energy to arrive in the form of tantrums.

Sleep: From 1-7 years old, 12-14 hours is normal. A regular bed-time routine, and going to sleep at the same time each night is good.

Television: TV has a dual effect on bad behaviour. Too much TV reduces the amount of exercise they get. The content of the programs they watch can also be a factor - you don't want your kids to mimic the Simpsons cartoon ... Itchy & Scratchy!

How To Discipline Kids

A few generations back, kids were seen and not heard. Disobedience took a more physical form.

More recently we see the development of the naughty step, time out and talking to the kids about taking responsibility for their actions. This is obviously a great improvement, but we now know these can have a major impact on self-esteem later in life.

When this doesn't work, we see an over-abundance of labelling and prescriptions to tackle the problem.

Dr Blaise Ryan from the Child Brain Health Research Institute has developed 3 Effective Keys to Stop Misbehavior.

Setting A Good Example

Do you lose your patience with your kids? Raise your voice, and lash out? Kids mimic their parents so if that is how you react to a problem, then that is the way that they will too.

Have you ever caught yourself yelling at the kids to "STOP SHOUTING!". Hmm.

It's hard to break bad habits and this applies to your kids as well as yourself. Try to think about how you have dealt with the kids negative behavior and think about what lessons you are teaching your kids.
