How To Help A Psychic Child

Why Should A Child Feel Lost?
As the moderator for Chip Coffey's discussion board, I know that the approach of the new season of the show Psychic Kids marks an increase in people seeking help for their own psychic children, and requests for help from the children themselves. This lens focuses on simple and sensible ways for helping families understand how to treat, respect, support and protect children that have psychic gifts, and how to help prepare them to grow up as comfortable and responsible psychic adults.

Anyone who has ever had a child knows how open and ready children are when they are very small. They learn by being curious about everything! If they are open to the experiences that they can see around them, they are also open to the experiences that they cannot see: or at least the things you can't see for yourself!
When children reach the age of around two, they are ready to experience whatever comes their way. No one has told them what to think about what they are sensing - they just sense things. That simple. Pay attention when they talk about what they are sensing: they haven't yet learned to keep secrets.
This is the age when a parent might hear a child talking about seeing someone who is not there, or about living another life with other people. You might want to chalk this up to imagination, but children need something they experience to base their imagination on. That imagination may come from dreams, yes. But there are times when what they say clearly comes from something more. Let me introduce you to James Leininger...
Children grow best when respected for their gifts.
Respect and nurture what is special and unique in your children and they will do the same for you!

Things that help a psychic child
- Keep your child grounded in love and acceptance.
- Don't treat this gift as strange, or abnormal in any way. This is your child's normal.
- Learn to manage your own fears, and don't share them with your child.
- Teach your child how to manage his or her own fears, with things they will feel most comfortable using.
- Put your personal beliefs aside and look at any psychic problems in a rational way. Make the problems normal, practical and real, not something scary.
- Learn about psychic abilities so you can help your child learn. Get information from different sources and pick the common sense opinions to teach your child.
- If you need your child to see a doctor because of behavioral problems and the topics of seeing things or hearing voices come up, watch out for the diagnosis of mental illness. Don't tell your child. Get another opinion and leave those details out - see what the next doctor says based on the other symptoms your child has. The number of times a doctor rushed into a diagnosis of mental illness because of psychic ability have been many and at times tragic.
- Be ready to help your child with bullying issues.

The Chip Coffey Discussion Board
I suggest watching any of the episodes BEFORE your children see them, not with them. Parental guidance at all times.
One of the things that immediately concerned me during the first season of Psychic Kids was the number of young people coming to the Chip Coffey discussion board wanting to discuss demons and demonology, because, if the kids are watching Psychic Kids, chances are they are watching some of the other shows as well. The fear factor in psychic topics seems to steer a lot of people towards ideas of demons, and this can seriosuly get in the way of working with practical psychic and paranormal solutions.
I steer all posters away from these topics, and we concentrate on dealing with the basics of handling negative and positive energy. We talk about handling fears, using protection, practical ways of looking at psychic and paranormal issues. So keep the Chip Coffey Discussion Board in mind as you watch this season's shows.

Are there great books on helping psychic children?
I don't recommend the books on Indigo children, because I disagree with the concept of telling people that the special children have appeared only in the past 100 years. There have always been special children with incredible gifts, they have not suddenly appeared. They are finally being given attention.
If a good sensible guide to working with psychic children does not appear soon, I will find someone to help me write one. I think any good guide should combine good mental health support as well as psychic support, because these two things are always intertwined.
I will be looking for good books - please let me know if you have one you would like me to check out. For now, this is all I can recommend: Please forgive me for recommending my own, but I will always favor books that remind you to use your common sense along with your psychic senses!
