Help For A Psychic Teenager

Ranked #7,250 in Culture & Society, #149,803 overall

What Are You Looking For?

At a time in life when many kids feel like outsiders, psychic kids get an extra dose of these emotions: Not only do they feel different from their peers - they can often pick up what others are feeling!

Some of those "others" may not be alive.

What do teenagers do with these feelings? Hide them? Blow them up into something fantastic so other kids will think it's cool stuff, but leave the psychic kids feeling the others don't really believe it, that it's just a game? Should they be afraid? Should they think they're crazy?

If you're a psychic teen: What are you supposed to think and do? Or how do you, as a parent or family member, friend or teacher, help them? Let's take a look...

Dealing With The Isolation

As psychic kids grow older, many factors keep them from being open about their abilities. Teens usually want to be part of the crowd, not feel separate from their friends.

They need guidance that respects that they are setting their own boundaries and goals, and helps them face not only paranormal fears, but the stress and fears that come with relating with other people who may not understand what they go through.

Psychic Teenagers: Peers and Mentors

Now 20, Travis Sanders became a public psychic teenager when he was featured in the first season of Psychic Kids: Children of the Paranormal, He has stayed in touch with the otgher kids of the series, and has a great website. Check it out!
Some stories from Psychic Teens
I am not recommending this webside as a place to get readings - I never recommend anyone who I have not seen at work. But the stories on this page are typical of the stories that come from psychic teens, and will let you know how large a group of psychic kids are out there.

Finding Mentors for your Psychic Teen

The toughest of resources to find are other psychic teens and places where psychic teens can go for mentoring and peer support. Teens are cautious about saying anything that points them out as different; they won't open up until they can find someone they can trust. One of the things that concerned me when I started moderating for the Chip Coffey discussion board was the lack of mentoring resources for teens. One of the teens that posted on our group wrote of an older man who was mentoring a group of local kids, and every alarm bell in me went off! Don't let your children be forced to gravitate towards a leader who may not be all that interested in teaching them! Do some homework about your local psychic and new age centers and see what options you have in your area that you can check out and approve of.

We have a number of people who come on the discussion board wanting Chip to mentor their children, but though Chip has talked about future plans for events and workshops, they are not happening at this time. Chip can't be a mentor to individual kids; he stays in touch with the kids who have been on his shows, and that really is a lot to handle: you don't want a psychic mentor who is spread thin.

I do mentor by phone and internet, and will eventually do workshops. I am here if you need me: you can contact me through The Psychic Tutor But do your best to find a local person or group that can help you out. Take a look a the following list in regards to finding mentors:

Checking Out A Psychic Mentor

For Parents And Teens Together

Parents and teens need to work together on handling the issues of psychic ability, just as you should on any other issue that affects all of your lives.

First and foremost: This is the teen's life. But teens, never forget that what you do affects your family as well.

Here is a helpful list you need to keep in mind when you are looking for a psychic mentor.
  • Check out their work. Check them out on the Internet. Take a workshop yourself, get a reading, read the psychic's articles, check out the background, and get recommendations. If there is nothing to check out, there's your first big clue.

Look for a common sense approach. It will help you find and keep your balance.
  • Find out what the person thinks of demons and demonology, psychic vampires, and other negative psychic practices. If they use these practices and beliefs or have anything positive to say about these practices and beliefs, do not go to them. If they steer away from the subjects and talk about ways of dealing with negative energies in a way you feel comfortable with, keep listening. See my lens on Facing The Boggarts, Unfacing The Demons.
  • Go to someone you would be comfortable being with, spiritually. For example, I keep a neutral spiritual belief simply because I want someone of any religion or belief to be comfortable with me. You want someone who is willing to work with your beliefs, sharing their own beliefs but not insisting on then. You should feel free to do the same.
  • Also talk to a potential mentor about mental health recommendations, because psychic and psychological issues often go hand in hand: For example, empathy is often accompanied by depression. Please do NOT become offended if a mentor suggests some counseling or other mental health service: A gifted, experienced psychic is in a position to let you know if such help is needed. Then: ask the mentor to help find counseling that is open to psychic ability. Don't go to a doctor or counselor first: If the doctors don't believe in psychic ability, in some states there have been cases of minors being sent to hospitals for evaluation without the permission of the parents, because of state laws.
  • Choose someone who is good at communicating with you. Not someone who will always tell you exactly what you want to hear, but will tell you, simply and honestly, what needs to be said, someone you feel you relate to in the same way.

How Is It, Living With Psychic Ability?

As A Family Member or Mentor:

Cynthia says:

My son is 17 and is depressed and having anxiety because he sees spirits and terrified. He feels the presence of several and he feels like they follow him to school. He hides it from his friends but at home he is terrified! He often comes in my room scared. He is afraid of our house. He often phases out because he sees images. I don't know how to help him, I just listen. He draws images of what he sees in his dreams and thoughts, some look frightening. He also has very vivid dreams. How can I help him?

As A Psychic Teen (or a former psychic teen!):

Ryan says:

I'm a teenager, I've had this ability to feel different presences no matter where I am. I've had ever since I was little but it's rather stronger now. I'm not scared but curious of what else I can do besides feel and see and sometimes hear things. I have depression adn it's pretty bad but I don't think it's because of what I can do but something else that I can't quite figure out. I can't tell anybody about it except my grandmother, she's the only one that knows my secrets, it's hard to keep it all private from friends and other family, but I think it's best that I do. Any advice?

Gina says:

It can be overwhelming, not always being sure what's me and what's coming from somewhere (or someone) else. It's very important to learn to be assertive and set boundaries, especially for an empath, and particularly when you start doing readings. I'm 31 now but can remember psychic experiences as a teen. Exercise and healthy eating help too. Your gifts and talents will grow and develop as you gain confidence in them and in yourself, so find a supportive community. Finally, remember to laugh and have fun. It can be difficult and overwhelming but a sunny disposition can help.

Breona says:

I think I might have an ability, I see peoples Aura's sometimes and often get vibes, strong vibes about people but not EVERYONE. I get bad headaches when I'm in a crowded place, like I'm trying to pick up on something. I'd love to go get help but Ifeel like my ability is so weak and spotty people will think i"m faking. Help!

alicia Watts says:

I don't know what to do with myself sometimes because I get so much information coming at me, I don't know how to sort it all out... I did a reading for a friend just trying it out for their grandma who passed away but I was getting information about their mother and grandpa as well as the grandma.. .

Subbjuggulator says:

Sorry to tell you this guys... But you dont EXPAND your abilitys... Your brn with them and you keep them long enough to learn how to use them... You cant, or else we would have documented cases of telepathy and we would be able to use more then ten percent more of our brains... People who have our gifts use about 40% because we can do things that more people with these abilitys cant... But if you have only mediums or procongitive you use about 30% of your brain... But if you only have one of the clarivoyiants you only have 15% unlocked including the normal 10%... i dont mean o be harsh... But there are other things you can do to learn... You never know... You could be special like me... Im alone in the family... I have clayivoyancy, pyrocanisis, im a medium, and feel others emotions... Im a wreck, kinda... Ive learned through trial and error... Then after my parents REALLY nasty devorce, i began having scitzophrinic trances... I cant remember them... There only once every three months after a full moon... Like clock work... If anybody has any help for ME... That would be great!!! My email is kateylykins@yahoo.com... THX!!!

The Cool Lenses

Top Five For Teens From The Psychic School

Below are other lenses I recommend that psychic teens check out. I recommend Facing The Boggarts Unfacing The Demons as one of the top lenses in the Psychic School because teens need to know how to face the darker beliefs and emotions that come up. Too many teen peers are interested in really dark subjects, and they can cause extra problems for the psychically gifted. Also - teens deal with more problems from psychic vampires - the real kind, not the role players, though the role players can cause a lot of problems, by adding confusion and fantasy to the real issues of being psychic. There are lots of suggestions for protection and fear management in The Psychic School.

Never forget that even though you have a psychic gift, you are also a human being, with the choice to make your life as balanced and normal - your normal! - as you want it.
