So don't give up.!
Nicotine Anonymous- Hope for Hopeless Smokers
"Nicotine Anonymous is a community of people who are addicted to nicotine. Nicotine Anonymous helps people quit by teaching them how to grow and live without using nicotine. The group recognizes that nicotine is highly addictive and alters the mood of those who use it."I copied this off of the Nicotine Anonymous Website, a great resource for anyone who wants to quit smoking, and has given up hope.

It is difficult to break any addiction, and nicotine is a powerfully addicting drug. I was finally able to quit when I was having the worst time And I quit cold turkey. In some odd way, I was so miserable that a little more did not make a difference. Go figure. I found out later in learning about addiction that cold turkey has a much better chance of success- because you are not constantly reactivating the receptor sites in your brain that crave the drug.
I would love to get a dialogue going. How have you tried to quit smoking. Have you ever been successful. If so, Why and how?
I also invite you to read some of my other writings on other subjects. Here is an excerpt from my newest article on my hub, "On Heaven, Hell, and The Law of Attraction Energy."
www.hubpages.com/hub/Law-Of-Attraction-Energy
Let us consider that Jesus' point was not that we become Christians, then get the prize- which is the Kingdom of Heaven. After all there was no such thing as Christianity at the time, so how could he be discussing that. So instead let us suppose that the point Jesus was making was that we become Christ-like. The point was that we follow the light of God within us, as taught by Jesus. (And coincidentally as also taught by Ghandi, Buddha, Martin Luther King Jr., and many other great spiritual leaders.) Let us suppose that when we become Christ-like, regardless of our religion, we have found eternal life. Because being Christ-like, in its highest sense, encompasses our light, and our love, and all that is good and beautiful. And GOD is the life/light/love force in the universe. So he, and we, are eternal.
Your Will to Live and Helpful Hints for Quitting Smoking
By the end of his life my father had lost most of the things that had always formed his very happy personality. He could not tell a joke or sing a song. He could not be silly, jump about, or play with the grandchildren. In short he could not do anything except doze in a chair all day and sleep all night. He had all manner of ailments, not the least of which had been diabetes, so even the food he once loved was no longer his to enjoy.
Now it may seem odd to talk about this in a blog entitled "Helpful Hints for Quitting Smoking." So I will tell you that I consider this blog to be more along the lines of an inquiry- and I do not have all the answers. I am not an expert on quitting smoking.
But I am considered an expert on addictions, as well as why people do what they do. And one could argue that I am an expert on how people can shift their behavior. But in the final analysis, neither I nor anyone else can have you quit smoking. It is only you who can do it.
So in this inquiry about quitting smoking I have to take note of the fact that for my dad, and for a lot of people who leave us, it is often true that the heart and soul, or a person's will to live, is gone. And even though my dad struggled over the idea of leaving the people he loved, there was certainly a large piece of him that was done with the whole business.
And also as an inquiry I have to wonder how much success a person would have in quitting smoking if he or she were not very happy in life. I have to think that if there is terminal upset, chronic pain or sadness around one's life, or if one is in some unhappy situation, the drive to fulfill some background desire to end it all might be quite strong. And smoking is certainly a socially acceptable way to do it without looking like you are.
Now I don't claim that everyone who does not quit smoking has a death wish. Far from it. I know the physiological and mental pull that an addiction, any addiction, has on a human being. But I do claim that if your life is not happy, loving, and content-if you are living in some terminal upset, or pain- you'd better deal with it if you want to be successful- regardless of all of my helpful hints for quitting smoking.
So if you are someone in this kind of situation it becomes vital that you A) Be honest with yourself about your unhappiness, and B) Take the steps to begin to create your happiness. This will in turn give you the will to live. And you can do this while you are doing your Neuro-Linguistic Programming, or hypnosis, or whatever you like. You can start the process by visiting my other blogs. My dad, by the way, loved life and he lived to be happy before he became so desperately ill. And you can live that way too, I'm sure.

My First Helpful Hints For Quitting smoking
Well let me clue you in that you are not crazy or insane, but rather it has been determined that nicotine is one of the most, if not the most, addictive substances on earth.
OK, so that's a lot of talk. But what does it mean?
If you talk about smoking as an addiction, you cannot ignore that with nicotine all ten trillion of your cells become addicted very quickly. When this happens, you are very much in the situation of a skid-row alcoholic. Although it looks a bit prettier, you are fully hooked. Now unlike the skid-row addict, your life is not falling apart, so the impetus to get help for yourself is relatively mild. Meanwhile you have ten trillion cells in your body telling you not to get help. In their mini-consciousness, they will die if you quit smoking. And when every cell in your body has a message this strong, it's pretty hard to ignore it.
Now you might be inclined to believe, as most of us do, that one of the best helpful hints for quitting smoking is to taper off slowly. Again from an addiction standpoint, this is bad news. You see as you become addicted to nicotine, and many other drugs, your body grows receptors to handle the influx of huge amounts of the substance. These receptors will never go away and the only thing they do is long for, and receive, the drug. If they don't get what they want, they will eventually slow down and stop screaming for the drug. So going cold turkey can have its benefits if you can last out the process.
On the other hand, if these receptor sites, which are permanent and will never go away, begin to get even just a little bit of nicotine, they become agitated to the highest degree. They want the substance with a vengeance, now that they know it is present and available. Hence to taper off nicotine only makes it all the harder to quit.
I am not entirely sure of the best method to quit smoking. Perhaps it is best to attack this from a body, mind, spirit perspective, and go to the 12 step program, Nicotine Anonymous. In this way you deal with the very real physical effects and obstacles, as well as the emotional, psychological ones. In addition you get to be with other people in your situation- which has its own merits. And certainly, if it saves your life, it is worth it.
One other new method that is meeting with great success is the method of Neuro- Linguistic Programming. When your cells and receptors are kicking up a fuss for their drug, how best to override them but with the help of the brain and the central nervous system. Some say it is a cheap parlor trick, like hypnosis. But if the trick works, I say try it. But whatever method you use, once you stop, for goodness sake don't try 'just that one last cigarette.' I hope you can see by now, that is truly playing with fire you probably can't douse.
