The Hebrew term "ezer" is actually based on an ancient word "azar." The Strongs Hebrew dictionary translates it as "to surround, i.e. protect or aid:--help, succour."
To be a help meet to my husband I am surrounding him with encouragment, faith, strength, protection, and trust. I am not harming him with my words, thoughts, or actions. I am seeking his good not his destruction.

I am a help meet for my husband and try daily to live to glorify God by helping and encouraging my husband.

You are SO RIGHT. It is imperative that we be aware of that. Women are not doormats to men-and NOT to their husbands. It is a hard subject to learn - and it definitely took me years to find the freedom in relaxing in the provision of God through my husband.

It is important to recognize that submission to one's husband is not submission to all males - that's inappropriate at best and dangerous at worst. The submission teaching is discouraging when taken on its own - as only something women have to do but the Scripture speaks clearly about men laying down their lives for their families, loving their wives as themselves. It can be seen as a man submitting and subjugating his own will and wants for the benefit of the marriage. This is two becoming one.

IMO, a woman is no lesser or no greater than a man. I love being my man and am happy 'single'. May not be the best choice according to the Bible. My simple question would be - 'what this the word 'submission' has to do with marriage?
