Number One Killer of Everything!

Not only are cigarettes the number one killer of people but the butts of these cancer sticks are also the #1 most littered item in America. This is a major threat to our beautiful world! As we all know it is our responsibility to keep our environment clean and healthy!

Remember that this lens is not against smokers, but the actual harm done by smoking.

If you support my lens please don't forget to give it a five star rank!

Helpful hint!

It really helps your lenses earn!

I have had a little experience with advertising and this is just a helpful hint to my fellow squids! Many different networks seem jumbled and hard to use so I reccomend using Linkshare which from my experience is simple to use and they offer a wide variety of popular advertisers to fit your lens accordingly!

From one squid to another!

Now on with helping the environment!

Fires!

Deadly incidents!

1 out of 4 fires are caused by cigarettes!

More children die from fires caused by cigarettes than those caused by other dangerous accidents.

Someone in America dies everyday from a fire caused by a cigarette.

Find out more info with the link below!

How long does a cigarette butt intrude upon nature?

An unexpected length of time!

Cigarette filters are 100 percent nonbiodegradable and made up of a plastic compound called cellulose acetate, which contains toxic chemicals!

These toxic chemicals can seep out and pollute everything it surrounds!

It can take a single cigarette more than 15 years to disintegrate naturally!

So next time you see a cigarette on the ground pick it up it doesn't take that much effort!

Water Pollution!

Many cigarette boxes and cigarette butts end up in rivers and lakes!

1 single cigarette butt can pollute 40 l of drinking water!

Think about people the average smoker smokes a pack a day thats 20 cigarettes!

The chances of these discarded butts ending up in our lovely rivers is very high!

TRASH!

Every day millions of cigarette boxes are thrown on the ground polluting streets and parks, they are representing the majority of all littered trash in these areas.

New Igo GREEN Tip of the Day

The air pollution emitted by cigarettes!

Crazy Bad!

The air pollution emitted by cigarettes is 10 times greater than diesel car exhaust.

THE CAUSE!

4000 chemical compounds are created by burning a single cigarette, many of which are toxic!

Ngoitokitok Springs by Stig Nygaard

Ngoitokitok Springs

Here are just a few of the most harmful ones!

Killer Ingredients!

Acetone - A flammable, colorless liquid used as a
solvent. It's one of the active ingredients in nail polish
remover. The tobacco industry refuses to say how
acetone gets into cigarettes.

Ammonia - A colorless, pungent gas. The tobacco
industry says that it adds flavor, but scientists have
discovered that ammonia helps you absorb more
nicotine - keeping you hooked on smoking.

Arsenic - A silvery-white very poisonous chemical
element. This deadly poison is used to make
insecticides, and it is also used to kill gophers and rats.

Benzene - A flammable liquid obtained from coal tar
and used as a solvent. This cancer-causing chemical is
used to make everything from pesticides to detergent to
gasoline.

Benzoapyrene - A yellow crystalline carcinogenic
hydrocarbon found in coal tar and cigarette smoke. It's
one of the most potent cancer-causing chemicals in the
world.

Butane - A hydrocarbon used as a fuel. Highly
flammable butane is one of the key ingredients in
gasoline.

Cadmium - A metallic chemical element used in alloys.
This toxic metal causes damage to the liver, kidneys,
and the brain; and stays in your body for years.

Formaldehyde - A colorless pungent gas used in
solution as a disinfectant and preservative. It causes
cancer; damages your lungs, skin and digestive system.
Embalmers use it to preserve dead bodies.

Lead - A heavy bluish-gray metallic chemical element.
This toxic heavy metal causes lead poisoning, which
stunts your growth, and damages your brain. It can
easily kill you.

Propylene Glycol - A sweet hygroscopic viscous liquid
used as antifreeze and as a solvent in brake fluid. The
tobacco industry claims they add it to keep cheap
"reconstituted tobacco" from drying out, but scientists
say it aids in the delivery of nicotine (tobaccos active
drug) to the brain.

Turpentine - A colorless volatile oil. Turpentine is very
toxic and is commonly used as a paint thinner.

The next time you see tobacco smoke imagine all the little deadly chemicals that linger within!

Did You Know That cigarette smoke Can Also Stunt Plant Growth?

Thats to much man! Don't mess with the trees!

The toxins from the smoke can actually be absorbed by plant life and cause stunting of growth! Not only does it effect growth, but the chemicals are as harmful to them as they are to us humans!

Well what about the animals?

Did I see that right? Millions!!!

Its estimated that each year 4.5 TRILLION cigarette butts are tossed away world wide which end up in Mother Natures backyard. The toxins are constantly poisoning tons of rivers, forests, and parks! These butts kill MILLIONS!!! Thats right millions of animals every year!! Every kind:FISH,BIRDS,EVERYTHING!!!

Okay so lets see what you can come up with!

Pick your brain!

So since so many cigarettes are littered everday hurting our planet! Hmmm? Should this be part of the main reason to keep people from smoking in public?

Should smoking be banned in public according to this issue?

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

Yes its very apparent that this is a main issue!

purple83 says:

Yes I am a smoker but yet I agree in resturants and other places that are confined with non smokers. I believe it is not really fair to the non smokers and their children. If we wanted a cigg so bad we for sure could simply get up go outside to the car or what have you. But should we ask the non smokers to go outside so we can smoke? Come on people now that would be just stupid..Yes ban public smoking.

And please visit my lens at www.squidoo.com/betterenviroment Thanks

Winter52 says:

I definitely learned a lot of things that I wasn't aware of. I only wish that some of the kids I see smoking, knew half of what you have posted. It just might make a few of them re-think the issue.

Nah there are more important factors in this argument!

I'm so glad I'm not a smoker. Filthy habit. If you smoke, don't stop for yourself, stop for your loved ones, friends, pets and the planet! Please?
