Help Save The Environment
The days of the reckless irresponsible dumping of waste and waste products are surely numbered. Our planet can no longer sustain current levels of pollution and the burgeoning pressures of world population are putting a huge strain on the planet's limited resources. The earth's resources are finite and if we are to survive in the long term we need to take action now to secure our children and grand children's futures. Green living is now the key issue of our time.
How can we do our bit to help ?
Read on.
The Importance of Recycling and Energy Conservation Around The Home - Simple things we can all do to help
We can all do our bit toward helping to save our planet, simply by learning and applying some simple home conservation skills, which won't cost us anything except our time.
If we don't already have these skills, they are easy to learn. Just like learning a new habit. Once you've learned it, then it just happens without having to think too much about it again. It becomes automatic.
Here is a list, in no particular order, of simple things we can all do to help the environment and cut our energy costs.
1.Use a bowl to do the washing up,ie. save on the amount of water we use.
2.Don't leave electrical appliances on if your not using them. Save on your electricity bill.
3.Sort your household waste into that which can be recycled and that which cannot. All it need take is the use of two labelled bins, one for each type of waste labeled up accordingly.
4.Bury kitchen waste in the garden, if you have one.
5.Turning the central heating thermostat down a degree or two can help save fuel costs as well.
6.Wear layers of clothes especially in cold weather. If you get cold, put a pullover on rather than reach for the central heating switch.
7.Paper can be shredded and added to garden compost.
8.Use a carpet sweeper sometimes instead of the vacuum cleaner.
9.Don't have furniture too near heating radiators. They block and absorb all the heat.
10.Make use of any free heat the daytime sunshine gives by opening doors and letting warmer air flow into cooler rooms.
11.Use fluorescent lights bulbs. They last longer and are cheaper to operate.
12. Why use the car when we can walk or use public transport?
13. If you have to use your own transport to travel to work, why not consider sharing the journey with someone.
Did You Know..?
One fifth of the world's population consumes over 70% of the earth's natural resources and owns over 80 % of its wealth.
In the twenty-first century starvation is rife among many emerging nations.
