Shame, Embarrassment and Guilt About Money Debts?

When I went through my bankruptcy, I had feelings of shame, guilt and embarrassment.

How did I allow myself to be in financial denial for so long? All those loans, mortgages and credit cards were so easy to get.

There was no emotional support for me when I had to face up to the fact that I was insolvent and needed to go through bankruptcy proceedings.

I want you to know that help is here and you can get through this. There is more than hope.

Debt and Forgiveness

One of the hardest things to do with debt is to forgive yourself. We all make mistakes or neglect to tackle something sooner rather than later.

Just remember that all of us are trying to the best we can. Even though that best may not be good enough at times.

So stop being hard on yourself and start to forgive yourself. You will feel a lot better for it.

The Credit Crunch

Lehman Brothers... Merril Lynch... Freddie MAc.... Northern Rock...

Why has it taken a credit crunch to make the banks lend responsibly. How effective is the volountary Banking Code and who is policing it? These and many other questions remain unanswered.

Remember if the biggest banks in the world can get wrong even with all their expertise so can you. They don't feel any shame and they have lost billions.

Decide to recover your self confidence today and find out more about how you can tackle your debts.

Fantasy Island Finances - Growing Debts

Loans, Credit Cards, Debts, Interest Rates, Repayments

I don't want anyone else to go through what happened to me. I kept borrowing money and getting new loans and always believing that this was the way everyone survived.

I didn't think about what would happen when my credit line was withdrawn or I couldn't afford the repayments.

In effect I was living in a fantasy. That's why I called my book "Fantasy Island Finances". I wrote it to let you know that there is a way out of debt.

It might seem unmanageble and you might feel alone and helpless. Often coping with the emotions of debt is the most difficult part.

You can get through it though and that's where the support in my book can help you.

Mental health and Debt

There is not enough help at a local/govermentlevel with the emotional impact of debt.Doctors are forced to five out anti depressants like sweeties. We need more access to NHS Counsellors.Talking therapies are more effective!

Financial Responsibility

Them and Us

I guess where I would start first of all with financial responsibility is with ourselves.

Unless we take responsibility we can victimise ourselves with beliefs like "They made me get into debt " They (the financial institutions) didnt get us into debt... we took the money.

However, and it is a big however,we don't need to beat ourselves up. We were working with the knowledge we had at the time and forgive ourselves and move on.

The financial institutions also have their part to play in irresponsible lending.

    Hi Kate,
A great lens about an important aspect of recovery from debt. As you must know most forms of help are about the practicalities of sorting out your debts. Your lens is one of the few that tackles and helps the emotions of being in debt. Well done!

Shame Wikipedia

Shame is, variously, an affect, emotion, cognition, state, or condition. The roots of the word shame are thought to derive from an older word meaning to cover; as such, covering oneself, literally or figuratively, is a natural expression of shame.
