Hulled hemp seed: optimum for your heart and your health

Hemp seed has been comsumed for centuries as a
staple food in Asia, Europe, and the Americas. The single-source, vegetable food is absolutely perfect - containing highly digestible, complete protein (with all nine essential amino acids) and a perfect 3:1 balanced ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 essential fatty acids.

What makes hemp seed protein superior and highly digestible?

Hemp seed protein is efficient to digest being one third edestin and two-thirds albumin (containing all nine essential amino acids). Hemp seed protein also contains no trypsin inhibitors that can cause upset stomach (typically found in legumes) and contains no gluten.
Hemp seed includes gamma-linolenic acid (omega-6) and stearidonic acid (omega-3), ideal for body and rarely found together naturally. Also one of nature's richest source of polyunsaturated oils, its nutty tastes is far superior to other sources of fatty acids.
Hemp has more protein per gram than many beef products without the cholesterol or saturated fats.
Hemp protein contains all essential amino acids in its own nutty-flavoured way and in an easily digestible form that won't cause gas or bloating.

"In case you're wondering, it tastes similar to a sunflower seed"

Are hemp and marijuana similar

Hemp and marijuana are two of the common names used for the plant species Cannabis sativa L. Different cultivars of Cannabis sativa L. will have various levels of the psychoactive ingredient THC. The hemp seed sold in health food stores usually comes from a Canadian cultivar and contains no measurable amount of THC.
A 2001 article in the Journal of Analytical Toxicology verified Canadian hemp seed - would not trigger drug tests in the work place, thus the hemp food industry has enjoyed double-digit percentage growth annually.

Why is a 3:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids ideal for health?

It is estimated that the ancestral hunter-gatherer diet provided a 3:1 ratio of omega-6 linolenic acid to omega-3 linoleic acid. The ratio is also considered optimum for your health and your heart. As you follow a healthy eating program, a correct ratio of essential fatty acids is important to support a healthy lifestyle.
