What are hemorrhoids,also commonly known as piles,it is a skin condition characterized by swelling and inflammation of blood vessels (veins) in the rectal and anal area, and affects more than 75% of Americans , particularly those who are over 50 years of age.

The word hemorrhoids actually refers to the cushions of tissues that join the rectum and the anus. These tissues are filled with blood vessels and the swelling of blood vessels, more particularly the veins, has come to be known popularly as hemorrhoids.

There are various theories about the cause, including inadequate intake of fiber, sitting on the toilet too long, and straining to have a bowel movement (constipation). Pregnancy is a clear cause of enlarged hemroids though, again, the reason is not clear. Internal hemroids affects internal rectal region.Internal hemroids usually don't hurt or itch; you can't feel them because they are deep inside the rectum In the case of internal hemroids the veins are rectal bleeding starts due to the enlargement of the veins.Internal hemroids are usually harmless,but since their bleeding could mask blood from a dangerous source like colorectal cancer, they should be treated.

External hemroids, cause most of the symptoms we commonly hear about pain, burning,itching and passing of stool along with bleeding.Should an external hemroid become strangulated (cut off from blood supply), a clot can form in it and become an excruciatingly painful thrombosed hemoroid. Due to these unpleasant symptoms, external hemorrhoids get the most treatment attention

What are hemorrhoid symptoms?

Internal hemeroids
* No sypmtom at all surprisingly
* Bleeding,blood on toilet bowl or paper
* Pressure or feeling of fullnes in the anal canal

External hemroids
* Itching
* Painful swelling around anal rim
* Burning sensation

Hemorrhoid treatment
Treatment of hemorrhoids includes over-the-counter medications, sclerotherapy, rubber band ligation, heat coagulation, cryotherapy, anal dilation, Doppler ligation, sphincterotomy, and surgical hemorrhoidectomy and it varies from patient to patient, all depending on the type and severity of the hemorrhoids.For relief of pain, swelling, and irritation, topical hemroid treatment medications & products are available that reduce the swelling.However, these do not always permanently cure hemroids
The best TREATMENT is no treatment in other words PREVENTION the following measures will help you prevent hemroids;

* Exercise regularly even if its only walking at a fast pace for 30 minutes do it twice a day
* Avoid constipation by not postponing the urge to defecate;
* Eat a balanced, high-fiber diet;
* Drink plenty of water, fluids;
* Avoid excessive pressure and straining during defecation.
