Hen Weekend Ideas & Suggestions

It is no secret that most women (especially the bride's closest friends) are more excited about hen weekends than the actual wedding ceremony. For the bridesmaid, then, being put in charge of organising the perfect hen weekend experience should be no burden at all - on the contrary, it is her chance to prove her organisational skills to create the best getaway ever. Stakes are so high though (having fun at a reasonable price is becoming more and more challenging these days) that you might need a few ideas for your planning process - so here are a few helpful tips for your hen weekend!

You are not planning your own party!

First of all remember that you are not planning your own party, therefore always keep in mind what the bride-to-be might or might not like - but then again, being (supposedly) your best friend, you should have no trouble identifying what activities are most suitable. Set a tone for your hen weekend - will this be a crazy, mind-blowingly inappropriate two-day extravaganza or more of a relaxed, laid-back girls' bond experience? Or, better yet, something in between - after all, balance is usually the best option, and not just in a marriage!

And since shopping is fun but, admittedly, kind of exhausting, heading to a health club for a relaxing spa session is something that always hits with the gals, so that you can make your muscles rest (and let them be taken care of by any sort of massage)!

Organisation is key!

Try to set an initial budget for the entire weekend (companies often offer customised hen packages per person), and also decide how many gals to invite (again, it depends on what kind of tone you would like to give to your mini-holiday). More importantly, think of a nice location in the UK or Continental Europe that best suits your requirements - you do not want to go shopping on a sea destination!

Activities

Now, on the actual activities for hen weekends - if you happen to be in a trendy city like Paris or Milan, the first thing that comes to every woman's mind is to hit the luxurious boutiques to make the purchase of their lifetime. Is that a bit too far for you? Well, the world is filled with many other, more accessible shops, so take out the gals for a nice spending spree anyway - because you know there is nothing that can make you feel better than a crazy shopping expedition with the girls!

Drinks!

On the drinks front - your weekend does not (necessarily) have to be a wild drinking challenge. Something really cool and trendy these days comes in the form of wine tasting. And who cares if you do not know anything about it? Faking the real expert look when you sip a glass of wine is something that will give you in a very classy and stylish appearance!

Even more fun..

When you are done with wine (and can hopefully still stand on your high heels), there are a couple of other good options, from a fancy dinner (any restaurant will do, but it is always best to go with local cuisine), to walking around the city, or to pay a visit to the casino - what a better occasion to gamble than on your hen weekend? Furthermore, organising a striptease by a male dancer for the bride-to-be is always one of the usual suspects. What really matters is that everyone stays cool without going too far (you would be amazed at how many weddings have been called off because of hen weekend inappropriate behaviour!) and the sisterhood spirit within all of you will undoubtedly lead to a really great hen weekend experience!
