It is best to use shampoo and a conditioner suited to your hair type. The two in one products tend to leave a build up on the hair. If you have colour treated hair, use a product especially designed for that type of hair so the colour lasts longer.

When towel drying the hair after a shower or bath, BLOT it, not rub it dry! It is better on the hair to blot dry, or even let it dry a bit naturally before appliance styling.

Henriette says, "You asked about the difference between men and womens hair styles, and cuts. I would say there isn't a whole lot of differences. Men may want more of the clipper style cuts, but so do some women. I would suggest every 6 weeks for a trim. Some people faithfully come once a month, but 6 weeks is a good guide line to follow. As well, with chemical styling like perms or colours done on the hair, it is a good idea to keep it trimmed on a regular basis."

Henriette says, "Baby's first hair cut...no set age. If you have a child who is blessed with a lot of hair, they may get their first cut before a year old. It really depends on how the child co-operates when they are placed on the hairstyling chair. Some times it means the child sitting on the parent's lap for the first hair cut. It is good to introduce the first hair cut at a young age, so they get used to sitting on the chair for a hair cut."

Henriette says,"Foils are a great hilighting tool. They work well especially if the client wants more than one colour put in their hair at a time. It is also easier on the scalp for those who don't care for the pulling of hair strands when using the cap method. Both methods have their merits, so it really comes down to what the client is looking for in the end result."

Add color and variety to your hair do by adding some funky colors

Henriette says, "Long hair and spiral perms may take upwards to 3 to 4 hours to do, depending on the length of the hair. It is important to trim the hair in between perms to keep it in good condition. As well, the proper kind of shampoo needs to be used on this permed hair. Avoid use of 2-1 products on permed hair or conditioners that leave a build up on the hair."

After getting a perm, the hair should not be washed for at least 48 hours. This is important to allow the hair that has been permed to bond. Some times, if the hair is washed too soon, the perm may fall out. I tend to be cautious about this to all of my clients, as it is better not to take the chance.

One may colour and perm their hair, but it is best to perm first. Then wait at least two weeks before applying the colour. Again, I tend to be cautious but it is best to let the hair settle into the perm for a few weeks.

I use the best kind of perm suited to the hair type ie: tinted hair, very fine hair, resistant or damged hair. I talk to the client about their perm history, analyze the hair type, and find out the desired result. I can do all types of perms...spiral, loose curl, body etc.

Get a Perm, no headaches from wearing curlers all night

When appliance styling the hair, especially straightening with a flat iron, try not to do it every single day. The hair will be in better condition if left for a day in between styling.

When straightening the hair with a flat iron, use a thermal protector on the hair as well. Again, it is important to protect the hair shaft as much as possible with blow drying and straightening the hair.

NEVER use a house hold IRON on the hair-ever!! There are flat irons available through your hairstylist at reasonable prices...ask them !!.
