Tea Tree Oil: Your Answer to Acne

Acne afflicts almost everyone at one point or another throughout life. For some, the teen years bring acne that can be quite severe, and for others such as menopausal women, acne is an enemy.

For all, finding an effective remedy is like finding the Holy Grail. Many use over the counter and even prescribed medications to solve their acne problems, as well as spend hard-earned money on visits to the dermatologist.
But a little known herbal acne remedy may be the only thing one needs to make the difference - tea tree oil. As an herbal remedy, tea tree oil is one of those that covers a lot of ground from fungal infections to being a very effective way to clean your kitchen counters!
As an herbal acne remedy, it is safe and effective when employed correctly.

What is Tea Tree Oil?

Just what is tea tree oil, anyway?
Tea tree oil is extracted from the leaves of the Melaleuca Alternafolia, or Australian Tea Tree. This oil possesses potent anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-viral components, and it is the anti-bacterial properties that act against acne.
Traditionally used for such ailments as athlete's foot, bad breath, and cold sores, it has also been a traditional natural remedy for acne. As an anti-bacterial, tea tree oil helps to significantly lesson the symptoms of acne such as inflammation and lesions.
Even though tea tree oil has a slightly slower onset of action, it is shown to be comparable to over the counter remedies containing benzoyl peroxide in effectiveness.
Tea tree oil will also help to curb future acne outbreaks, making it even more desirable as an herbal acne remedy.
While tea tree oil is an excellent way to reduce the symptoms of acne, it is not a cure. Acne must be cured from within the body.

How to use Tea Tree Oil for Acne

Tea tree oil can be rather harsh, especially to sensitive skin, and should always be applied with care. Tea tree oil should not be applied without being first diluted with water, Aloe vera gel or a mild unscented lotion. Using undiluted tea tree oil on acne lesions can further irritate the skin and cause redness and over drying, resulting in making the acne worse.
The proper way to dilute tea tree oil and use it as an ointment is to add only one or two drops to a dollop of aloe vera gel or unscented lotion, mix, and dab on acne lesions two or three times a day. Or, it can be diluted with water, four to six drops per 4 ounces of water, and dabbed on with a cotton ball.
You will be able to smell the tea tree oil in the gel or water, but it shouldn't be overwhelming.

Cosmetic manufacturers are beginning to use tea tree oil in products such as blemish concealing sticks and pressed powder. These are a great choice for women who may have issues with other kinds of make up causing acne breakouts.
Use of these cosmetics can be combined with using tea tree oil as an herbal acne remedy.
Tea tree oil can be found at health food stores and online, but be certain that the oil you are purchasing is pure and from a reliable source.

Of the many uses for tea tree oil, fighting acne is one of the most valuable.
Use tea tree oil with care and you will see results in a short time.
Use it consistently, and you will find that acne outbreaks occur less often and are less severe.

You have great lenses on this aggravating subject. I was known for my beautiful skin for years - until menopause! Antibiotics, Retin-A, and other topical solutions have NOT really helped much. It's embarrassing. Getting older is bad enough! But I just ordered Exposed after reading comparative reviews with other products - sounds like a fabulous blend of medicinals and natural ingredients to address each aspect of the skin. And while waiting, in desperation I remembered the Melaleuca oil I had in my medicine cabinet and dabbed a little - with remarkable results the first night! (I have used it 3 nights now.) After reading this, I now know why, and I know how best to apply. Your information is invaluable to sufferers, and I can testify to its effectiveness - far more than any dermatologist I've visited! 5 stars, favs, and I'm your FAN!

Your lens is good. It contains most of the info needed. However, I may add one or two points with your permission.
