Aphrodisiacs Found in Kitchen Herbs and Spices
Over the years, many common spices and herbs have offered mouth-watering tastes and enticing aromas to stimulate the appetite. But did you know that many of these same ingredients have often been included in love potions and other magical concoctions to whet a lover's sexual appetite as well? What's even more exciting is that you don't even need a physician's prescription to enjoy these aphrodisiacs everyday!
I wager that six of the most time honored "love herbs" are probably sitting in your kitchen spice rack right now, because, believe it or not, Cloves, Saffron, Pepper, Vanilla, Nutmeg, and Ginger are thought to be among the most common, yet potent aphrodisiacs around.
Other popular herbs and spices that claim aphrodisiacal properties, include garlic, mint, rosemary, sage and thyme. All of these ingredients have also been used in various recipes, incenses, essential oils and aroma-therapies to stimulate sexual attraction.

Ginger Aphrodisiac
Sexual Stimulant

1.Ginger is often heralded as a "wonder spice". The ginger root has been known as an aphrodisiac for centuries due to it's intoxicating aroma and it's property as a circulatory system stimulant, which is thought to make erogenous zones hypersensitive.
Ginger contains gingerols, zingiberene and other agents that make it a favored seductive flavor in Asiatic and Arabic herbal traditions.
Ginger is even mentioned in the Kama Sutra under "occult practices". This chapter maintains that success in love can be improved by "aphrodisiacs, herbs, and spells." The Kama Sutra is an ancient Indian text on human sexual behavior; considered by some to be the bible of sexual information.

It is reported that if a man has a swig of pure vanilla extract, one hour before having sex, he will not have an impotence problem but will be very hot with passion.
According to the Australian Orchid Society,
"Old Totonac lore, has it that Xanat, the young daughter of a Mexican fertility goddess, loved a Totonac youth. Unable to marry him due to her divine nature, she transformed herself into a plant that would provide him pleasure and happiness."
Vanilla contains the widely loved vanillin, whose taste and smell conjure up romantic feelings, in the appropriate circumstances.

It is thought that the Clove, and some other spices and herbs, contain eugenol; this aromatic fragrance is thought to enhance sexual feelings.

Researchers dealing with the potency of nutmeg as an aphrodisiac substance found out that at low dosage it is capable of increasing the sexual activity, increasing both libido and potency, this may be due to its stimulation of the nervous system. Most males experience few if any adverse effects; thus providing a scientific rationale for the use of nutmeg in the management of male sexual disorders.

Medical findings, now show that saffron affects the neurotransmitters in our brain's pleasure centers, so perhaps saffron may indeed be a true aphrodisiac.
It is found to be a soothing relaxant, capable of lowering blood pressure and stimulating respiration. Perhaps, it could also contain properties that stimulate the libido and the erogenous zones.
Some say it's sexual properties are most effective when used by women.

- I wonder if many of the aphrodisiacs work because they actually increase oxygen in the blood or improve arthritis or other inflammatory based illnesses? Good health would indeed account for a food's aphrodisiac qualities I believe.

- Achoo! That pepper therapy will require a paradigm shift to work on me! But I do believe that for healthy couples on the same page, herbs aka aphrodisiacs from the kitchen or better yet grown in the garden, can enhance the libido. The power of suggestion derived from research like this doesn't hurt the cause either. Very nice lens on an interesting topic.
