This is a short list of herbs we use every day, which I grow in my garden. They all make great spices and are a regular addition to all home made food in our family.

P.S. I made this page about gardening tips in support of The Food For Everyone Foundation nonprofit organization. If you buy anything or enjoy an ad on this page, you'll be making a donation to charity for free.

Keep To Natural Ingredients!

Our home yard is full of fruit, grains, vegetables, and trees. We grow them each year and rarely buy them from market or shops. We consume food freshly prepared, with all natural, simple, and produced by ourselves ingredients.

Savory

Savory

This is the total winner, we never cook a food without it. Seed in early spring- March-April, grow free and gather when it begins to bloom in July. We hang it to dry in bunches on walls and when already dried well put in jars or bags to keep.

HERB GRINDERS are the perfect gift for the herb gardener-get yours here!

Mint

Parsley

We seed this one in February, when grown only the green leaves are consumed with salads, and home cooked meals. This is another favorite used along with savory almost everywhere.

Parsley is so popular and often used in all types of food that we even gave a saying about people who are present everywhere that they are like parsley for every meal!

Celery

Celery

Celery is seeded in February-March, and then planted in April. We use leaves and stems for soups and sometimes for storing food for the winter, too. I like the crunchy stems especially.

Basil

Basil

The Mediterranean herb has a very strong smell so we use it less often,. It is suitable for fish, meat, or pizza and pasta. Seeded in March and planted a month later it is ready for picking in May-June. It is preserved dry or on the stem, and can also be grown several more times throughout the year, or as an indoor plant. Its beautiful, delicate and small leaves make also a piece of decoration on walls when well dried.

HERB STORAGE CONTAINERS are my favorite piece of kitchen decoration- the tiny jars on racks are joy to the eyes!

Bay Leaf

Bay Leaf

It's not very common for our climate but my mother brought some from a trip to Italy and planted it in a pot. It's planted from a piece of the root from a young plant or from seeds and requires more humidity and warmth than the regular herbs. Bay leaf doesn't stand low temperatures and if exposed to excessive cold it dies-but can be preserved indoor.

Red peppers (paprika)

Pepper!

Dill

Seeded in the autumn it grows in spring- or in early spring to grow in summer. It is suitable for less dishes but goes very well with vinegar in salads.

Fennel (dill)

Oregano

It is seeded in the autumn, stands the lower temperatures so it can stand the winter and can be both seeded, or planted from a root. We prefer to use it in salads, sauce, vegetable dishes or pasta.

SALADS with oregano get specific and delicious taste- find the best tools to make and serve delicious salads.

I've just been digging the vege patch ready for my spring planting, and already put out some herbs, so I enjoyed this lens - beautiful and very informative!

Very nicely done! We enjoy growing fresh herbs, both for their flavors and for the interesting foliage and blooms that they add to the garden. Butterflies really like the flowers on our chives and basil plants.
