Books About Dragons

Dragons often vary in form and attitude from culture to culture and in the fantasy realm, they can often be almost anything you want. In Asia, they tend to be related to elements or large landforms. You can find dragons that swim, ones that fly, others than dwell underground in caves. In Europe, they are most often seen as malevolent, eating damsels, breathing fire and hoarding jewels.

The Mythology of Dragons

Many cultures in the world had dragons or creatures very similar to them, however, how they were perceived and what they symbolized could change much more radically.
Dragon History
Dragon History - Universal accounts and depictions of dragons in ancient cultures. The evidence for dinosaurs centuries before the science of paleontology existed.
Chinese Dragon History
Unlike the ugly, nasty, Western types, most Eastern Dragons are beautiful, friendly, and wise. They are the angels of the Orient. Instead of being hated, they are loved and worshipped. Temples and shrines have been built to honor them, for they control the rain, rivers, lakes, and seas.
Of Dragon History
Dragons have been a part of myth and stories as long as time has been. They are a part of most fairy tales as well and stories of Knights fighting Dragons abound through the ages.
Dragons and Their Astronomical History
A legendary monster usually conceived as a huge, bat-winged, fire-breathing, scaly lizard or snake with a barbed tail. The belief in these creatures apparently arose without the slightest knowledge on the part of the ancients of the gigantic, prehistoric, dragon-like reptiles. In Greece the word drakon, from which the English word was derived, was used originally for any large serpent, and the dragon of mythology, whatever shape it later assumed, remained essentially a snake.

Dragon Tattoos

Dragons in History
The dragons of legend are strangely like actual creatures that have lived in the past. They are much like the great reptiles which inhabited the earth long before man is supposed to have appeared on earth.
Yarrow: Dragon & Ice Castle
Nearly every culture and civilization on Earth has ancient legends and myths about dragons. These often winged reptiles appear in many guises, including serpents, snakes and worms. Even the science of geology has its own dragon myths: The Age of Dinosaurs, when huge reptiles stalked the planet.
Dragons
Many people believe in Dragons, and it is said that they were once a common sight everywhere - in the skies, the sea, and on the ground.
Dragons Winged Serpents - Crystalinks
Dragons, Snakes, and Pearls are symbols for human DNA, Fire representing soul sparks of light emanating from the flame of creation.
The Dragon Stone - Basics: What is a Dragon?
This essay aims to give a basic idea of what a dragon is. It is split into two main sections. The first deals with the problems of defining dragons, and traits common among dragons. The second section covers what dragons are not. Modern misconceptions about how dragons must be are listed. Also some creatures which share many traits with dragons, but are not dragons, are described.
Dragons and Serpents
Are dragons and serpents merely fabrications of the boundless human imagination, or do they represent something of great spiritual significance for all cultures?

Renaissance Fair Dragon

I was at a Renaissance Fair in the summer of 2005 and we were just outside the gates of the Fair when we spotted this guy.

What you are looking at is a full-sized dragon costume, made almost entirely of leather. Some of the construction mimics how suits of armor were made, which makes sense for a guy who likes Ren Fair. The plating is all leather, and does a good job of making dragon scales. The tail was also constructed from leather and some hammering and studding provide details and texture.

The mask he wore covered his entire head and included horns and a short beard. I'm sure it was very hot inside that outfit but it also looks amazing.
