Where to find heritage/ heirloom seeds

When you grow plants from heritage (also known as heirloom) seeds, you're growing a piece of the past. Generations of gardeners will have carefully collected and saved these seeds - something that rarely happens today. By growing heirloom plants, and saving your own seeds, you're protecting plant biodiversity - and growing something fun!

The Heritage Seed Library

Saving heritage seeds in the UK

Garden Organic, the UK's organic gardening charity, run the Heritage Seed Library (HSL). The HSL doesn't sell seeds - it gives them away to members each year. The aim of the HSL is to conserve and distribute heritage vegetable varieties, some of which were once popular and some of which are family heirlooms - passed down through generations. They also have some unusual plants to try.

The Real Seed Catalogue

The best vegetable seeds for the Kitchen Garden

The Real Seed Catalogue is a small UK-based seed company that doesn't want to get any larger! They only supply seeds from open-pollinated varieties, so you can save your own seed each year. They'd rather you do that than come back and buy your seed from them each year, and so they make detailed seed saving instructions available on their website, and send them out with each packet of seed.

Organic Seeds Online - Association Kokopelli Organic Seeds - Welcome
Association Kokopelli, a non-profit making organisation in France, was set up in 1999 to take up the torch of Terre de Semences in France, which was forced to close down following the enforcement of a ministerial decree (Ministry of Agriculture) imposing draconian conditions for the legal registration of ancient vegetable varieties in a "A List for Amateur Varieties".

Association Kokopelli has, in this short time since 1999, blossomed all over Europe presenting an imposing collection of ancient vegetable varieties. Many members of the Association are very deeply involved in the protection of alimentary biodiversity and the safeguarding of traditional varieties.
