Who is Hermann Hesse?
Movies have been made of two of Hesse's novels. On was the Seventies film Steppenwolfe with the lead character played by Max Von Snydow and the other Sidartha directed by avant garde filmmaker Conrad Rooks in the Sixties.
Hesse's last, and least understood, novel, Magister Ludi: The Glass Bead Game written in the middle of World War 2 in Switzerland won the Nobel Prize for Literature. His books have been translated into English and despite having been written in a different language are remarkably accessible.
