Hermione Granger Quotes

When Harry Potter and Ron first meet Hermione in the Sorcerer's Stone, she comes across as being a smug, know-it-all. Although perhaps Hermione was really being a bit irritating because she was actually nervous about attending the witchcraft and wizardry school of Hogwarts when, as she admitted, no-one else in her family had any magic at all. Sometimes people don't show themselves in their best light when they are full of nerves.

"Are you sure that's a real spell? Well, it's not very good, is it? I've tried a few simple spells just for practice and it's all worked for me. Nobody in my family's magic at all, it was ever such a surprise when I got my letter, but I was ever so pleased, of course, I mean, it's the very best school of witchcraft there is, I've heard - I've learnt all our set books off by heart, of course, I just hope it will be enough - I'm Hermione Granger, by the way, who are you?"

Ron, in particular, finds Hermione to be extremely annoying. As well as being a know-it-all, she also (initially at least) likes to stick like glue to the school rules. So it is a crucial factor that after the boys save Hermione from the clutches of a troll, she actually tells a fib to stop Harry and Ron from getting into trouble. After that point, Harry and Ron gain a lot of respect for Hermione because her loyalty to them proved itself over and above her fear of getting into trouble with the school. And from that point forwards, they made a fab trio of friends.
