What is a Doctor of Philosophy from India doing,  'playing detective' in New York City? Doesn't he know he can get HURT from asking too many questions?

Sendhil, Convincing

Sendhil Ramamurthy's audition for Heroes was so CONVINCING that the role of Mohinder was altered.

The Mohinder character was re-written as a young geneticist who follows in his father's footsteps, which is a far cry from the intended 55-year old geneticist that was originally planned for the role.

The older geneticist was retained in the character of Mohinder's father, Chandra Suresh.

Drawn Toward Chaos

Something Just Doesn't Sit Right With Mohinder

Feed Shark

Hereos Begins:

Mohinder is quite aware that the reputation of his father, Chandra Suresh, is quite up in the air. His father, formerly very well respected in the field of Genetics, has become nothing short of a JOKE in India and among International genetics experts, too.

Mohinder's father keeps working on a project that plainly angers Mohinder. Father Suresh even leaves his family to go to New York City, U.S.A., in search of humans with superpowers. What a crazy thing!

When Chandra Suresh is murdered in New York and Mohinder gets the news, his curiosity gets the better of him and he travels immediately to the US of A - to recover his father's effects and gather up his research project materials. His intent is to put an end to - effectively put the lid on the box of, so-to-speak - his father's project, but what he finds of the remaining project details in New York make Mohinder do otherwise.

To boot, only a matter of hours after Chandra's death, Mohinder has managed to gain access to his New York apartment and from within, the phone rings...

...the caller knows of Chandra Suresh's demise and speaks about Chandra and his research...

Mohinder gets the heebie-jeebies, is clearly in danger only seconds after the caller stops speaking - and he escapes the apartment after the phone call - but only JUST BARELY!

*whew*

Brave or Crazy, we're not sure which - Mohinder returns to the Brooklyn, New York apartment later on. He rifles through his late father's research papers and decides there's something IN THERE...only he can't put his finger on it. Something DOES make sense in all his father's jargon, so Mohinder takes a job with a New York taxi company in order to prolong his stay in New York just a little longer.

When Mohinder picks up a passenger and the passenger talks about 'being special,' at first, Mohinder doesn't think much of the conversation. Soon, the rider in the back seat begins talking about genetics and evolution, which sparks Mohinder's thoughts some more on the topic of his father's research...

Soon, Mohinder picks up another 'fare,' the man in Horn-Rimmed Glasses. Mr. Horn Rimmed Glasses (a.k.a. Mr. Bennet, played by actor, Jack Coleman) sort of freaks Mohinder out, dropping little questions on him, then finally addressing bigger details - making statements about Mohinder's life in India and information that only Mohinder should know...

Mohinder freaks out, stops the taxi, jumps out and RUNS!

And all this happens in just the first episode!

A lot more happens in the life of Mohinder Suresh in the remaining 22 episodes of Heroes Season One!

Mohinder to Sendhil

NBC TVs Heroes Actor, Sendhil Ramamurthy

Sendhil Ramamurthy was born in the USA!

Both parents are physicians, so maybe this has helped Sendhil deal with some of the 'scientific' and 'medical' oriented terminology that his character uses on Heroes.

His parents originate from Bangalore, India.

Like his alter-ego, Mohinder, on the Heroes show, Sendhil also has a sister - Only this one is alive and well. Wow, she's ALSO a doctor! His sister is currently training in the fields of internal medicine and psychiatry.

The Ramamurthy siblings were raised in San Antonio.

* 1991, Graduated from Keystone School
* Sorry gals, the handsome Sendhil is married
* Married to actress Olga Sosnovska
* Sendhil and Olga have one daughter, Halina
* Sendhil tried his hand at medicine, too, attending pre-med training at Tufts University
* Took a mandatory course, "Intro to Acting" in his junior year and the acting bug bit him hard
* Currently, neither his parents nor sister, all in medical fields, have been able to cure Sendhil from the acting bug which has afflicted him and drastically affected his life!
* Attained a bachelor's degree in history before heading on over to more suitable training at Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art
* We are all so glad that Sendhil ditched medicine for Dramatic Art!

Theatrical productions that Sendhil engaged in:

* A Servant of Two Masters
* Indian Ink
* East Is East

Films:

* Thanks To Gravity
* Orient Express
* Little India

Guest Appearances on:

* Ellen
* Casualty
* Ultimate Force
* Grey's Anatomy
* Numb3rs
* Guiding Light
* January 25th, 2007, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

Concerned about stereotyping, Sendhil has wisely and deliberately stayed away from 'Indian' character roles prior to taking up his Indian character, Mohinder Suresh, on the Heroes series.

*thumbsup*

It's Time the world understood that looks don't make the person.

KUDOS to Sendhil for operating in so many Dramatic roles prior to Heroes - and wading AGAINST the long-term nationality stereotyping that has been prominent in Hollywood for too long!
