Hiro is overly upset about his broken sword. He is uncharacteristically 'hopeless' and forlorn at the beginning of this episode, though once Ando searches the Yellow Pages and finds a metalsmith, Hiro begins to feel hopeful again.
Mr. Bennet meets up with Claire on the street and is surprised to find out that she and Peter are already well-acquainted.
Ted and Peter are quite the potentially explosive pair and agree that Peter needs to get out of the city before he causes and explosion. At this point, because Claire believes she is connected with Peter and destined to be part of whatever happens with him, she decides to tag along with Peter. Unfortunately, a figure (Sylar) with ultrasensitive super-audio ability has eavesdropped on conversations - to learn that Ted is a fugitive and that Peter will be making his way out of the city. Sylar starts formulating a plan to utilize these new details for his own benefit!
Nathan is struggling with what Linderman wants him to do and is also worried about lowering poll numbers. Because Linderman notices Nathan's reluctance to co-operate, he tells Nathan that his father was 'one of us' but one who gave up. Linderman also brings Nathan's wife, Heidi forward and delivers a gift to the couple - the healing of Heidi's recently crippled limbs!
On their way out of the city, Ted, Claire and Peter make their way through the New York Streets, but an ability kicks in for Peter and he becomes aware of Sylar, hearing Sylar's thoughts from a distance. From this, Peter understands that the trio are being followed, that Sylar is aware of Ted's fugitive status, and also of Ted's powers. Before the trio can problem solve, FBI agents materialize to capture Ted. Matt's partner, Audrey Hanson arrests Ted, while Peter grasps on to Claire before asserting his invisibility power upon them both. Audrey thanks Isaac Mendez for the tip that lead to Ted, however, Isaac is not who he seems...he is Sylar.
As Hiro is darting across the city to find the sword-smith, he chances upon Nathan. He tells Nathan about the future, where Nathan is not a good person. Hiro tells Nathan to help stop the bomb, thinking that he has reached Nathan in time, before an evil influence has overtaken the elder Petrelli brother. Sadly, Hiro learns he is too late in approaching Nathan and that Nathan is already on a dark, destructive pathway in life.
With no time to think further about Nathan, Hiro and Ando make their way to the sword-smith, at Jittetsu Arms. Mr. Claremont at Jittetsu Arms is surprised when he sees Hiro's ancient Kensei sword. Then it is Hiro's turn to be surprised when his father, Kaito steps out from a back room at Jittetsu Arms! When Kaito asks to speak privately with his son, Ando is hesitant, worried that Kaito only wants to convince Hiro to return to Japan. Hiro tells Ando that out of respect he will hear his father out.
Micah is still being held as a prisoner by Candace at the Company's Kirby Plaza building. Micah tells her he thinks she's a nice enough person after she gives him some comics - notably a rare Silver Surfer #1 comic. When Micah wants to know why Candace doesn't use her powers to become a hero, she dismisses his comments. Soon, Mr. Linderman comes along to ask for Micah's help in 'talking to machines.' Micah is told that his assistance will help his family be able to live happily ever after.
Hiro learns that Kaito knew his son had powers all along but that Kaito wasn't sure if Hiro had the right spirit to go along with the special abilities. Kaito tells that after observing Hiro of late, he is now convinced of Hiro's true Nakamura descendancy. Hiro reminds his father that he failed to kill Sylar when he had the opportunity and he doubts his spirit, but Kaito doesn't respond with disappointment about the Sylar incident. He reveals that he is a master swordsman and wants to train Hiro in swordsmanship, and Hiro takes on this new challenge. They spar at length until Kaito has shown Hiro all the ancient maneouvres, and when Hiro has proven himself skilled with a sword, Kaito reminds Hiro of the sacrifice that Takezo Kensei made in order to be a hero.
After this training, Hiro sets off to find and immobilize Sylar, newly confident in his warrior abilities. On his way out, Hiro learns that Ando, worried that Kaito had planned only to side-track Hiro, bought a sword and went to search out Sylar on his own. Now Hiro's quest to bring down Sylar is doubly important, as Kaito warns that Ando will never survive a face-to-face encounter with Sylar on his own.
During the hectic midst of election day, Candace brings Micah to a polling station. Here, he is to work his special ability against the computers. Micah is allowed into the booth with Candace when she explains that Micah is her son. He is told to alter the electronic voting machinery to give Nathan Petrelli the most votes - a landslide victory! Once done, Micah just wants to go home.
D.L. and Jessica go to Nathan's office, where Jessica confronts Nathan about the fact that he didn't kill Linderman when he had the opportunity. Jessica and D.L. warn that Linderman will use Nathan as a puppet and that they will kill Linderman since Nathan couldn't do the task. Nathan agrees to tell where they can find Linderman, providing that they get the job done right.
Mr. Bennet and Matt Parkman use Matt's abilities to navigate around a building's tracking system, and they run into D.L. and Jessica along the way. Realizing they all have similar interests in the building, they decide to work together, and D.L. uses his ability to get them all clearly through the security system.
Mohinder is in the building with Molly Walker. He checks on her state of well-being and find that her special ability has returned. She uses her ability to detect that Matt is in the building.
Matt and Mr. Bennet make their way around but are unaware that they are being observed on security monitors. As Thompson waits to ambush the pair, planning to kill Bennet, Matt's ability alerts him to Thompson and they are able to preserve Mr. Bennet's life. Bennet kills Thompson, and then he and Matt continue along to the room with the tracking device. They find out that the tracking device is Molly.
Matt can't come to terms with the fact that the tracking device - tho' it was understood that the 'device' was a human being - is actually a mere child - Molly. He can't fathom 'taking out' the tracking device and killing a child.
While Matt's emotions are reeling, Mohinder reacts quickly and knocks Matt out cold. Then he trains his gun on Mr. Bennet - who is pointing his gun at Molly.
With the darkness of night starting to blanket the city, Ted is escorted away in an armed police van. Sylar lies in wait for the van, and before the van travels far, Sylar uses his power to flip the van. Sylar opens the doors to find an upside-down Ted, held in place by his restraints. When Ted screams that he is hurt, Sylar calmly says he will help him.
This get all confusing once D.L. and Jessica reach Linderman in his suite. Linderman reveals that he watched the pair since they were children and manipulated things so they would be together. He offers Jessica money if she will kill D.L. but suddenly, she realizes that this situation is not what another half of her wants in life. Jessica disappears and allows Niki to come forth, and reunite with D.L. Frustrated with Jessica's lack of nerve, Linderman pulls out a gun, intending to kill Jessica/Niki and be done with her. D.L. jumps in front of her and takes the bullet meant for his wife. Linderman continues to advance and position himself to kill Niki, but D.L. still has some mobility. He phases his fist inside Linderman's skull and Linderman has no defense for this, and dies quickly. Niki holds an injured D.L. in her arms as the scene closes.
Naturally, because of Micah's electronic manipulations, Nathan wins the election in a staggering landslide victory. "They call it a landslide" he mentions in his official victory address.
At the scene of the flipped van, Audrey shows up to find out that Ted's condition is ever do bad. The scene and public starting to gather around the van causes traffic jams. Claire and Peter are nearby but stuck in the jam, so they get out of their vehicle and start to walk. As they approach the police boundary at the scene and survey the area, they realize that Sylar has struck again. Though not aware of Claire and Peter, Audrey is also suddently aware that Sylar has struck again.
At this point, it dawns on Peter that now, the explosion might end up being caused by Sylar instead of himself - now that Sylar has a new power. Though Claire tells Peter that now he has to stop Sylar, Peter is unsure that he can, based on his last encounter with Sylar.
To close the episode, we see Sylar at night, on a rooftop, overlooking the lights of New York. He is toying with his new ability, mumbling,
