His non-extraordinary life ends and a new one begins as soon as Chandra Suresh makes an appearance.

Chandra is a kind of scientist - a geneticist and he drops by one day to speak with Gabriel...and from that day forward, something ticking in Gabriel suddenly went, 'tock' - or 'tick tick tick' - *Poof*

Chandra Suresh was looking for special people - from a special list he carried.

Gabriel decided he would become special. If he wasn't already special when Suresh arrived...he definitely made SURE that he was special before Dr. Suresh ever had a chance to leave...
