Do You Know your Fictional Female Characters?

Are you a literature geek like me?

From the lens Quiz: Heroines of Classic Literature.

OK, time to confess, how did you do with these ladies of literature? I hope you enjoyed this little tribute to them even if it was a challenge!

  • jercow75 Apr 5, 2012 @ 1:12 am | delete
I did well on the middle quiz as well. I love classic literature but I guess I haven't paid enough sttention to the ladies

  • oxfordian Nov 29, 2011 @ 10:15 pm | delete
I am! And I was so happy to see Edith Wharton so well represented here. I adore her. I thought I had already posted a paper I did titled "Lily Bart and the Man Who Let Her Down," but it's not on my list of published lenses, so I'll get it going tomorrow. Thanks. I had a blast!!
  • anupma Nov 9, 2011 @ 12:41 am | delete
Yes, I am, and I am very fond of Jane Austen's female characters.

I didn't do as well as I'd hoped. Good quizzes.
  • tssfacts Apr 16, 2011 @ 12:14 pm | delete
I really don't read as much as I used to. That is probably why I don't have any literature lenses. You do such a great job on these I think I will just read your works.
  • honeymishi07 Feb 17, 2011 @ 10:42 pm | delete
Margaret Hale from North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell is one of the extraordinary heroines of Classic Lit. Elizabeth Gaskell isn't quite as known or as celebrated as Dickens or the Brontes, people who had been big friends of hers, according to her biography, but she was a gifted writer in her own right and her talent shows in this wonderful gem which I will reread again in the not-so-distant future.

I made a lens on one of her wonderful works, hope you also check it out! Thanks! :D
  • WordCustard Feb 18, 2011 @ 2:35 am | delete
Thanks for commenting. I'm an Elizabeth Gaskell fan too. I hope you voted for Margaret Hale above! ;)

I just love your quizzes! Ladies in Classic Lit for the win!
  • SKATINGISART Jan 9, 2011 @ 7:02 am | delete
THOSE WRE VERY DIFFICULT, BUT GOOD.
  • LKW31 Jan 4, 2011 @ 5:50 pm | delete
What a great lens, I did terribly in the quizzes! I really like Nana from Emile Zola's book "Nana", she was excellent at manipulating men, I must re-read it. Anna Karenina annoys me, silly woman, but I loved the book. Thank you for entertaining me!
  • greenspirit Dec 30, 2010 @ 2:01 pm | delete
oh thank you for the last minute treat.
  • paperfacets Dec 22, 2010 @ 3:49 pm | delete
I didn't do very well on the quizzes. No matter, they are still fun. I thought I would have to ask, "Where's Hardy", but he came up toward the end. The book I just read was "Jude the Obscure." Jude could have been Depp or Cusack. His lover? hmm, I don't know, but there is the first wife too.
  • kathynealen Nov 30, 2010 @ 7:30 pm | delete
Got them all correct on the easy quiz but only 4 out of 7 on the difficult quiz - both were fun!
  • kimmanleyort Nov 5, 2010 @ 12:28 pm | delete
I failed the difficult ones miserably but got 90% on the easy one. I think this lens goes to show that people like quizzes and I don't think there is anything wrong with having difficult ones. It sure made me want to read some classic books. ** Blessed **
  • WordCustard Nov 5, 2010 @ 3:56 pm | delete
Wonderful, thank you so much Kim! Good to see you with the Angel wings at last.
  • Tipi Oct 27, 2010 @ 12:17 pm | delete
Glad I stayed, much better, my tears have dried and I am now smiling!
  • WordCustard Nov 5, 2010 @ 3:55 pm | delete
:) Glad to hear that Tipi! Thanks for visiting.
  • WildFacesGallery Oct 9, 2010 @ 12:47 pm | delete
I did very poorly on the last. You'd have thought that even guessing the odds would have been better. All of them were quite fun though. Really excellent quizes. :) AM lensrolling to P&P lens.
  • WordCustard Oct 9, 2010 @ 1:26 pm | delete
I'm glad you had a go, besides it's only for fun so no worries if you didn't get full marks. :) Thanks for the lensroll to your excellent Pride and Prejudice lens.
  • tembrooke Oct 4, 2010 @ 7:48 pm | delete
I did fairly well on these quizzes -- they were challenging, though! Thanks for the fun lens!
  • WordCustard Oct 5, 2010 @ 10:04 am | delete
Thank you for giving them a go, and congratulations on doing well!
  • Bus_Stop_Toy_Shop Sep 28, 2010 @ 10:27 am | delete
Full marks on the second one, but then only 2 right in the extra tough quiz - must read more!
  • WordCustard Sep 28, 2010 @ 10:45 am | delete
Ah well, full marks for effort! :)
  • imolaK Sep 20, 2010 @ 2:11 am | delete
I enjoyed your quizz, but I had to re-read these books, lol.
  • WordCustard Sep 20, 2010 @ 8:02 am | delete
Thanks for giving it a go, Imola. :)
  • MeltedRachel Sep 15, 2010 @ 10:07 am | delete
    *swoon" the lake scene!

I got 10/10 on the easy quiz!!! Woohoo! But 4/7 on the extra difficult one.
  • WordCustard Sep 20, 2010 @ 8:02 am | delete
Wow, that's the best yet I think Rachel!
  • bethd821 Sep 15, 2010 @ 9:30 am | delete
Only 40% on the difficult quiz, 80% on the easy (should have been 90), 43% on the really hard one. I need to read more classic novels! Blessed
  • WordCustard Sep 20, 2010 @ 8:01 am | delete
Thank you so much, Beth! Verdict seems to be this was tricky (even the 'easy') so you did very well.
  • ShirlW Sep 15, 2010 @ 5:55 am | delete
50% here on the easy quiz - Geez! And here I was thinking I was so smart and my memory wouldn't fail me.....time to re-read. I'm afraid to even touch those difficult ones.
  • WordCustard Sep 15, 2010 @ 6:13 am | delete
All quizzes 'seem' easy when you are the one with the answer sheet... it's a different story when you are taking them, as I discovered on the Greek Mythology quiz (did raise a few smiles though!).
  • SoyCandleLover-Maker Sep 15, 2010 @ 4:58 am | delete
At 50% for the newest and easiest quiz it's fair to say not too well. I read so much current fiction, I think I must have shoved all my school classical reading out of my brain. :D I really do need to go back and re-read the classics. Thanks for the friendly reminder.
  • WordCustard Sep 15, 2010 @ 6:12 am | delete
50% is not bad... these quizzes are only easy if you know the answers! :)
  • JaguarJulie Sep 14, 2010 @ 2:25 pm | delete
Oh Oh ... I have an idea!!!!! What if there were two levels of the same quiz? An expert and a novice ... the novice one could give hints along the way? I say this because I have BOMBED miserably over the last few days with all the intellectual quizzes. Heck, I am ONLY a blonde!
  • WordCustard Sep 14, 2010 @ 3:44 pm | delete
That is a most excellent idea. Tomorrow I'm going to add an easy version so that everyone can have fun with this one. I'll leave the difficult ones for lit geeks like me who want the challenge. Thanks for the suggestion.
  • JaguarJulie Sep 15, 2010 @ 5:02 am | delete
Well cool ... I think I need to enroll in a quiz addiction treatment program ... but THEY keep asking me all kinds of weird questions ... you know? All kidding aside ... let me go give 'em a try!
  • prosperity66 Sep 14, 2010 @ 11:37 am | delete
Wohoooooooooo! My favourite! What a handsome man! So classy, so British... and his voice! Thank you Nicki, thank you so much for this consolation prize! You're not just the smartest woman out there, you're also the nicest!!!!!
  • a_willow Sep 14, 2010 @ 11:25 am | delete
Oh, school days! :) Think it's time to re-read all of these books! ;)
  • WordCustard Sep 14, 2010 @ 11:30 am | delete
Yes, go do your homework.... :) I might need to do mine and make this a little easier.
  • jptanabe Sep 14, 2010 @ 10:32 am | delete
Great job on these quizzes! Now you've made me want to read all these classics again!
  • WordCustard Sep 14, 2010 @ 10:57 am | delete
Thanks Jennifer! Glad you had a go at them.
  • prosperity66 Sep 14, 2010 @ 9:42 am | delete
I failed miserably in the second quizz. I mostly read biographies (from the past centuries) and thrillers or alike when I take a break from the time machine :D Classic literature is something I never got attracted to but I found these quizzes clever.
Normal, coming from one of the smartest women I know ;)
  • WordCustard Sep 14, 2010 @ 9:46 am | delete
Thanks for trying it, Ms Dom (and for the compliment!). Maybe I need to add some easier questions... Not everyone is such a Victorian literature geek as I am! :D
  • spirituality Sep 14, 2010 @ 9:40 am | delete
    I failed badly...
  • WordCustard Sep 14, 2010 @ 9:44 am | delete
Eek, I hope I didn't make this too hard, I know you are a smart cookie. Thanks for having a go!
