PACIFIC OCEAN (March 26, 2011) Sailors donate clothes, food and toiletries designated for Japanese disaster relief in the hangar bay aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). Ronald Reagan Sailors voluntarily donated personal items including clothes, food and toiletries to be used by the people of Japan. Ronald Reagan is off the coast of Japan to provide disaster relief and humanitarian assistance to Japan in support of Operation Tomodachi. PACIFIC OCEAN (March 28, 2011) Aviation Structural Mechanic 1st Class John Childers, assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2), donates items to be delivered to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force helicopter destroyer JS Hyuga (DDH 181) and distributed to residents of Japan displaced by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. PACIFIC OCEAN (March 24, 2011) Ship's Serviceman Seaman Steven Day, assigned to the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) places food into a box set aside for donations to Sendai, Japan. Fitzgerald Sailors donated some of their own blankets, toiletries, clothing and perishable food to the people of Sendai, which was devastated from the 9.0 earthquake and subsequent tsunami March 11.
