Talk to the angels in the heaven
The history of communication is as old as the history of man on this mother earth.Communication is the essence of the human existence. And without communication man would never
have survived for millions of years. It is a unique thread which connects man to man, society to society, and country to country;a net catching all the talking two legged social animals, that we are,in it's loop.Because of communication the world has become a global village now .Nothing is comparable to this unifying force.Without communication there would have been chaos in the world, a mad mad world.Life would have come to a standstill. We can't simply think of the consequences of a society,a country or a world, with out the magic thread of communication. Not only that
it has helped in keeping us sane ,but also has played it's vital role in building great civilizations, and shaping rich cultures, throughout history,as well.
It is communication which triggered great
movements in history,be it the cultural revolution, like Renaissance or the Industrial Revolution,in England, Europe and America. When oral communication was not enough in the early stage of their existence, people used crude forms of communication to exchange information,by burning pyres on the hill tops or towers, which was visible from a long distance. But with this only a limited prearranged messages could be exchanged. This system continued from the ancient to the middle ages. With the advancement of science ,a new device was developed, known as"Semaphore",with movable arms set in various position, to spell the words and letters.Besides, there were other means, like signaling by means of flags or lamps, hoisting and lowering the signal balls, which are even now used in navigation. The concept of modern telecommunication developed with the discovery of the magnetic effect of electric current,in the 19th century.

The great scientist, who invented telephone wasAlexander Graham Bell.He was born in 1847 at
Edinburgh, and migrated to Canada in 1870.and
later on became a citizen of the United states
of America. In 1876, he exhibited his invention,
the wonderful telephone, which was to become a
trail blazer in the field of telecommunications.
The telephone can truly be called as the mother
of the modern telecommunication system.
He founded the first telephone company called
The Bell Telephone company.
The Story Of "Hello" Industry In The US
With the invention of the telephone, more telephonecompanies came into existence, and formed an
association called as, The US Telecoms, to represent
their interests,which symbolized the
spirit of this, the most dynamic "Hello" industry.
It reflects the other side of the evolution of
the telephone industry in the US.
In the beginning, the Bell Industry and the other
hundreds of telephone companies, were a part of
the US telephone industry, but with the growth
in their businesses , rift development in
their ranks.While the independent companies
favored interconnection for the long distance
call services, the Bell company was busy in buying
the small companies.
The independents then realized, that they must
co-ordinate on a national level, to be an effective
force .Therefore, in May 1897 the executives of
these companies met in Chicago, and formed an
organization named as The National Telephone
Association,which was subsequently changed to
The Independent Telephone Association.The same
year the association held its first meeting in
Detroit, which was attended by representatives of
about 400 independent companies.
In 1913 the US Telecoms was instrumental in achieving
the "Kingsbury Commitment" ,under which the Bell
Telephone Company had to forgo the control of the
Western Union, and connect it's lines with the
independent exchanges, with certain conditions.Bell
Company had also to refrain from taking over any
independent properties, if the Department of Justice
of the Interstate Commerce objected to any such
acquisition.
In 1922 the US Telecoms added one more feather to
it's cap, when it brokered the "Hall Memorandum"
as per which, the Bell Company had to pledge not
to buy any independent telephone company except
under very special circumstances,with a 30 days
advance notice to the US Telecoms, to examine the
grounds and consider, if it complied with the
provisions of the Hall Memorandum. This Act
immensely solidified the commanding position of
the US Telecoms.
which played a key role, in the passing of
the "Communication Act" of 1934, which strengthened
the already existing powerful rights of it's
members.
The United States Telecom Association
The US Telecoms did not fall prey to complacencywith the above achievement but continued it's
crusade for providing better and innovative
services to it's customers, throughout the decades
of 50's,60's and 70's.The most significant
contribution of it's Separation and Settlement
Committee was,the just and fair distribution of
the revenue, the US Telecoms got from the AT&T
toward network payment, among the Bell Company
and the independent members.
The year 1982 witnessed a dramatic change in
the organization, with the US Telecoms adopting
a new name as the The United States Telephone
Association,admitting the other Bell company
members to enroll as it's members.
The itch to move ahead, did not allow this dynamic
body to remain idle. The Association after a lot
of meetings and deliberations decided to overhaul
most of the rules and regulation in a bid to
offer affordable prices and best services to it's
customers.The Telecommunication Act of 1996,
passed by the Government reflected the sincere
and honest efforts the Association had made
for the purpose. This was one of the major
achievements of the organization. And with the
passing of this bill, the organization came to
called as the The United States Telecoms
Association,truly reflecting the new and
broader interests of it's members and its
customers.
With the dawn of the 21st century, the Association
seems to be bracing itself to meet the new
challenges ,in the ever changing market and the
new technologies, that is emerging in the field
of communication.
The ultimate objective seems to ensure that every
body should afford to say hello on the line with
out pinching his or her pocket.
