I am a native of Hiawassee, Georgia it is a pretty nice place to live . Hiawassee is located in the mountains of North Georgia close to the North Carolina line. I have seen a lot of changes in our town over the last 57 years with most of them during the last 15. We lived in town until my late teens so i was close to what was going on in town . My grandparents owned a general store in town and i spent lots of tine there.you know way back when cokes were .05 cents , cigarettes were .20 cents, Milk .50 cents a gallon. boy haven't things changed.
Hiawassee is the home of the Georgia Mountain Fair It has changed a lot over the years , but it still draws thousands of visitors every year.
Hiawassee is a very beautiful area with Lake Chatuge providing a lot of lake front property and the mountains. we have a lot of retired folk living here sost from Florida who go back south in the winter . The population will more than double when they all come back to the mountains in the spring.
Hiawassee is a great place to live you will find the residents friendly and the atmosphere relaxing, Come pay is a visit. There is lots of interesting things to do and several entertaining events here and in surrounding areas regularly.

Georgia Mountain Fair

The Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds plays host to several popular annual events including the Georgia Mountain Fair, the Georgia Mountain Roots & Music Festival, the Hiawassee Festival of Arts, the Superstar Concert Series, the Georgia Mountain Fall Festival and Georgia's Official State Fiddler's Convention.

The Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds are located along the shores of beautiful Lake Chatuge in the north Georgia mountain community of Hiawassee and is only two hours from Atlanta, Greenville, Asheville and Chattanooga. The Fairgrounds offer a wide-variety of unique venues, and beautiful year-round camping facilities.

Georgia's Official State Fiddler's Convention

Aerin DeJarnette competes in the Junior Fiddler Division (59 and under) and the "Fiddle Off" for the 2007 Georgia Mountain Fiddle King title during the Georgia Mountain Fall Festival held in Hiawassee, Ga.
