Hidden San Francisco -- Best Things To Do

Ranked #22,912 in Travel & Places, #520,467 overall

The "Best of the Best" hidden things to do

Some of the very best hidden things to do in San Francisco are shown here. We found them during years of research for our web site www.hiddenSF.com. Of course our web site shows hundreds more hidden gems, but these are our current favorites which even a jaded San Francisco local will find interesting.

By the way, the photo on the left was taken from Hawk Hill at the Marin Headlands. Hawk Hill is very close (just across the bridge) and provides one of the highest and best panoramic views of SF Bay.

Lyon Street Steps

A breath taking experience in so many ways!

Most locals know this fantastic stairway and most tourists don't. We consider it one of the best, most wonderful SF things to do ... one which you will never forget. If you are from out-of-town quickly drop by this beautiful spot to see why locals love to live in SF. Enjoy the views, the air, the nice houses, the exercise. Location: Lyon Street & Broadway, SF.

Moraga Street Steps

Beautiful tiled steps leading to a beautiful 360 degree view

OK, here are some steps you locals have probably not seen. And the view from Grand View Park at the top is a great 360 degree view of the city, particularly the west side. Location: Moraga St & 16th Ave, SF, just off 19th Ave.

The Butler & The Chef French Bistro

A cute, comfortable, authentic bistro

A nifty place for just coffee or for a very tasty meal. Their souffle is truly the best we've ever tasted as every friend we've brought here agrees! The very real French Chef wouldn't let us "take out" his souffle because it might lessen the experience. Location: In the historic South Park neighborhood at 155 South Park St, SF

See the SF Giants for FREE

You can't get in the stadium for free, but you can watch the game

When the SF Giants are playing you can walk around behind the stadium, to McCovey Cove, where fans are allowed to watch the game for FREE. This is from a special area where you stand immediately behind the right field fence. It is completely legal and even guarded to insure that the people watching take turns should it get crowded. You are only about 50 feet from the right fielder!

We like to combine this little treat with a walk east up the Embarcadero or a walk west, across the bridge then along the new Mission Creek Park where there are several houseboats (houseboats in SF? yes indeed!).
