Ground Beef 

Ground beef is an excellent source of protein. 85% lean ground beef contains approximately 27 grams of protein in one 100 gram serving. It contains approximately 40 grams of protein in a 1/2 pound serving.

If you are worried about the high fat content in ground beef, don't worry because there is a solution. After you have cooked your ground beef, place it in a strainer and rinse it under water thoroughly. Rinsing your ground beef continues to drain the fat off the meat. Carefully rinsing your beef under the water can make it virtually fat free. I personally rinse my ground beef for about 5 minutes.

Ground Beef Fajitas

Brown ground beef in a pan, place in strainer and rinse thoroughly to eliminate remaining fat.

Chop up some peppers and onions and place in pan to cook. You want the vegetables a little soft so cook until desired texture.

Place ground beef back in the pan to warm, and warm whole wheat tortillas in the microwave (15-30 seconds).

Fill tortilla with beef and peppers and top with cheese and salsa.

The Eye of Round steak is a very lean cut of red meat. A small 4 ounce steak contains approximately 24 grams of protein. The fat content in this steak is very low, and you can tell because if you overcook it slightly it becomes extremely tough. I like to pop a couple of eye of round steaks under the broiler a few minutes on each side, giving me a high protein meal in a short amount of time.

Chicken 

Chicken is a very lean, high in protein food. A boneless, skinless chicken breast is virtually fat free and is extremely tasty when cooked just right.

Chicken is packed full of protein also. It contains a whopping 30 grams of protein in just 3.5 ounces. Your local grocery store should carry bags of frozen chicken breasts in the freezer section.

Chicken Recipe 

Crispy Baked Chicken

Ingredients:
6 Chicken Breast Halves
1 and 1/2 cup of Breadcrumbs (low carb preferred)
1 tbsp. fresh Basil (chopped)
1 tbsp. fresh Oregano (minced)
1 and 1/2 tbsp. fresh Parsley (minced)
1 and 1/2 tsp. grated Lemon Rind
1 tsp. Lemon Juice
3 Egg Whites.

Directions:
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
Combine breadcrumbs, parsley, oregano, basil, and lemon rind in zip loc bag.
Combine egg whites and lemon juice and brush this mixture of the chicken breasts.
Place chicken breasts in bag and shake until completely coated.
Coat baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray
Place chicken breasts on baking sheet.
Bake 25-35 minutes until chicken is done.

Tuna 

Tuna is one of the cheapest high protein sources you can buy. Depending on where you shop, you can find a can of tuna for about 99 cents. A 6 ounce can of tuna contains 40 grams of protein. Tuna is a great protein source for dieters because it is low in calories also.

If you do not like canned tuna, you can always try the new no drain tuna pouches. They are easy to open and do not make a mess. They also come in a variety of flavors, so you don't have to eat plain tuna.

Tuna Salad Quickie Recipe 

Chopped celery
Chopped onions
Mayonnaise
Can of Tuna
Mix everything together in a bowl for a quick tuna salad with a little crunch.

The reason I don't put any amounts for each ingredient is because some people like different textures. Some people like a little less celery, mayo, etc... Just use those basic ingredients and mix how you would like. For an added kick, sprinkle red chili pepper on your tuna salad.

Baked Halibut Recipe 

A quick and easy baked halibut recipe. Even the non-chef can make this.

Ingredients:

4 Halibut Filets
4 tsp. Tapenade
Olive Oil Cooking Spray
1 Cup of Water

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 225 degrees F and lightly coat Halibut with cooking spray. On the top of each Halibut filet, spread 1 tsp of Tapenade. Place Halibut filets in glass baking dish with 1 cup of water. Bake for 20 minutes.
