A Vegetarian Diet Could Save Your Life

Ranked #34,203 in Healthy Living, #437,806 overall

Whatever you may think at this moment in time about a vegetarian diet, do not knock it before you try it. I realize this is a diet that is not for everyone. You have to decide whether this is a life style that you want to pursue. Whatever you choose, here are a few points to take into account.

Try The Best Diet Ever!

I hate admitting this, but my dear family loves to eat. Their food of choice is red, juicy muscle. Yes, I mean the flesh kind. Not a meal goes by where there is no meat on the plate. The more the better! Mention vegetarians to my family and they guffaw all over themselves. They believe vegetable eaters should be banished from the earth.

I have become a vegetarian. It was not an easy transition for me. There was a lot in my life I had to remove. I was raised on fried, greasy, cheesy, breaded, smothered (with gravy) types of food. My blood pressure got higher. I got so very fat. I also had horrible bouts with my diabetes. I had to change or my life would have been taken away.

I did my homework. I put more vegetables, fruits, nuts, beans and whole grains into my meals. I did not think it would taste good. Margarine, salts, dressings were all I had known. And then I threw those bad items away. I started going to the gym. It was very difficult. I did five minutes. Then I could do ten. Now I can do cardiovascular exercises with the best of them.

It takes some getting used to, but you will find good sources of protein if you will only look. Beets, corn, watermelon, celery, potatoes and spinach are just a few items that have protein. I was taught these foods would never taste good in and of themselves. I have tasted them and this is completely incorrect.

Having a diet that includes many fruits and vegetables will give you a fighting chance against cancer. Studies have been done and do show that people who have a rich menu of these foods can cut their chances of cancer by up to fifty percent. This even includes skin cancer. To me that is a fantastic reason to at least try these foods!

Whole grains and nuts are an extremely terrific addition to your lifestyle. If you have a history of heart disease, eating whole grains will help you fight it and can give you a chance at a more fulfilling existence. Nuts contain folic acid, which is great in fighting colon cancer. They have dietary fiber, potassium and magnesium too. You should be smiling!

Too many people think a low carb vegetarian diet is tasteless. This is a horrible myth. When we eat better, we feel better. It is time to stop filling your body with garbage. Give your body something to live for. It is not an easy journey. But with dedication and hard work, you will accomplish the task. Do not be afraid of that first step.
