If you are looking for high toughness MTG creature cards then you have come to the right place. This is a list of some of the most powerful creatures out there in terms of defence. Here you will find the best creatures of Magic the Gathering, if you are looking for a high toughness number.
A few notes:
*These creature cards are picked solely for their raw toughness numbers. They are great, but they need to be used with a tactic that takes this into account.
*Some high toughness creatures comes with a hefty mana casting cost. Keep that in mind when you build your deck.

Ghoultree is a green 10 power 10 toughness creature for 1 green and 7 colorless mana.
If that sounds like a steep mana cost, then rejoice, because this high toughness DKA creature will cost 1 less colorless mana for each creature card you have in your graveyard. Essentially that means you could have a 10/10 for 1 green mana. Not a bad Magic the Gathering card from Dark Ascension!

Elbrus, the Binding Blade is a Legendary Artifact That gives +1/+0 on equip. The cool thing about it is that it is double-faced and upon transform it beecome Withengar Unbound, a 13 power, 13 toughness Demon with Flying, Intimidate and trample. But wait there is more. Whenever a player loses the game, you put 13 +1/+1 counters on Withengar Unbound, this has incredible potential when battling multiple opponents in one game. After the first player leaves the game you will have a 26/26 monster creature that will be next to impossible for your opponent to get rid of. One of the most interesting cards to come out of MTG Dark Ascension.

This is currently the creature in Magic the Gathering with the highest toughness. Furthermore it is the most powerful one. Not only is this a 15 power, 15 toughness creature for 15 colorless mana, it also have some pretty amazing abilities. When you cast it, you get to take another turn after your current one. That means, that you don't have to worry about all the mana you just spent. It also have protection from colored spells, annihilator 6 (meaning the opponent has to sacrifice 6 permanents whenever you attack with Emrakul, the Aeons Torn), it has flying and when it is put into a graveyard you shuffle your graveyard into your library. If you can get this creature down you are in a good spot, because it is a proper beatstick!

Death Shadow is interesting, because on paper it is black creature with the highest toughness in the game. It is however not always reality as the creature will come in play with -x/-x where x is your life total. This means it could technically be a 0/0 if you play it at the wrong time. Used smartly it can however also be a 12 power 12 toughness creature for 1 black mana. Not too shabby!
