"High School Musical" star Zac Efron underwent an emergency appendectomy Tuesday. The 20-year-old actor had the operation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

He was hospitalized a day after Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Productions announced that he and his five "High School Musical" co-stars had signed on to appear in the theatrical film "High School Musical 3: Senior Year."

Filming for High School Musical 3 is scheduled to begin in January '08, according to OK! magazine.

It will be a feature film on the big screen this time around. Early reports were that HSM3 was going to have a haunted theme but new reports are of a graduation/prom. I wonder if Zac had anything to do with that?

Zac Efron is reportedly getting 3.25 million (wow!) dollars and Vanessa Hudgens a mere 1.3 million.

I can't wait for the new High School Musical. I only hope it is as good as the first two.

Jan 16 UPDATE:
Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman will star as high-school seniors staging an elaborate musical before they graduate, the studio said.

Now we know what HSM3 will be about. Filming is supposed to begin this spring.
