High Colonic: High Five Colonic or Low NO, Not Me?

I Had Thought These Were Going Out of Vogue
I have had a colonoscopy since that one high colonic. I didn't use any anethesia then, and I watched the same screen the doctor saw. What I found remarkable was that it was all so pink and clean looking. Of course, that had all been after a day of fasting and then taking some horrible liquid over a couple of hours and then a self administered enema. But it was still very clean.
So I thought, where was all this build-up that was supposed to need several high colonics to clean? I mean, the day was awful, but I was clean right up to the point where a high colonic would have gone, and it must have been clean higher up. Good news, byw, they found nothing and I didn't have to go back for another ten years.
I mentioned that, was told its not the same and didn't ask again.
Ten years later I had a second one. They demanded aneasthsia and well, I didn't see the need to 'see' it again. I did note that the day before was much less unpleasant than I remembered. For one thing fasting wasn't as bad as I remembered, aging has some benefits, apparently. But the liquid was only taken over an hour, it wasn't quite as nauseating and there was no need for an enema.
So I thought, "that was easy enough, how about doing this once every once in a while instead of the high colonic?"
BTW, they found one small irregularity and removed it, but I don't need to go back again for 10 years. The man before me was told to come back next year, so that isn't automatic. But it sure shows the importance of the colonoscopy!
If Paris Hilton Does It, Shouldn't You Do It?
But then think of all the things Paris Hilton does that no one should do!High colonics are still in vogue some places. Paris Hilton (pictured here receiving a high colonic) says she does one when she feels 'blue'.
""To begin, you lie on this totally comfortable table in a stylishly appointed room. The colonic therapist gently inserts a small rigid tube called a speculum about six inches into your rectum. Oooooooh. Just talking about it gives me goose bumps."
I feel the same way about facials, massages, etc. Hmmm......
I had a high once, decades ago. I lived in north Jersey and had to drive down to the shore to find some one who did it. But I had read so much about the importance of a clean colon, and I still believe that, that I took the day off from work and the drive. I was underwhlemed. Of course, to be fair I didn't have Paris' money and well, it wasn't a "stylishly appointed room" and it wasn't pampering, although the woman was pleasant and professional. But frankly (and tmi warning here) the 'product' wasn't as much as a good bowel movement. I guess if I were constipated it might have been more worth it.
So What Is The Problem With High Colonics? Why Not Just Do It?
What are the problems with colon cleansing?1. The assumption is that colons don't know how to do their job! Well, they do. They know how to clean and they know how to balance. Of course, If we bomb them with bad food and get them lazy by not exercising we can turn a good colon bad, but attacking with a tsunami is not going to help them do their job of keeping a delicate balance of bacteria and chemicals.
2. High Colonics do literally invade your colon with a tsunami of water, it can be way too much that will destroy the balance and leave little that is healthy 'behind'.
3. The colon can be perforated. 'nough said.
4. While the colon cleansing products may do some good, they are not regulated and manufacturers can make any claims they want.
The Colonoscopy Is a Life Saver
Have your first at 50 or before, then every 10 years at minimum, more if they find problems.
Colonoscopies Are Necessary, But High Colonics Are Just a Fad
And Maybe A Dangerous One!
Do You Think High Colonics Are A Good Idea?

Hell, No! And Here Is Why....
WindyWinters says:
I've had enough procedures and I'm not interested in having it done.
ChineseKitesforKids says:
Its like douching your ass. No thanks.
Othercat says:
No way! I don't see why anyone would even want one.
Hey By All Means Keep Your Colon Healthy, But Beware the Risks of High Colonics

How can I protect myself from colon cancer?
Colon cancer is real and its a hard way to go. Do whatever you can, that really works, to protect yourself.
1. Get a lot of vegetable fiber in your diet.
2. Get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. This will combine with your high fiber diet to keep your intestines in top form!
3. Don't smoke. That slows down your blood flow and your colon. That's no way to stay clean.
4. Ditto for alcohol.
5. Keep your weight at a healthy level. This does not require being skinny. Just don't put too much burden on the system.
6. Get regular cancer screenings.
7. Start your colonoscopies at 50 at the latest, and sooner if recommended.

- I haven't had a colonoscopy because it isn't a routine procedure done in Canada. You can only have one if your doctor orders the test.

- High colonics started with the Egyptians, you know the people who made mummies.
Dr. Joseph Harvey Kellogg popularized them in this country. He is also the guy who brought us over priced, under nutritional breakfast food. He was a bit of a nut. The movie, Road to Wellville, is just a little over the top from who he really was.
