In search of high leverage

Five days with Seth Godin APPLICATIONS CLOSED
Can you can be a linchpin and still have a job and a boss and an office?
The leverage you've got is incredible, and I want to help you use it.
This is a free program for eleven people. It's a five-day seminar and experience that will change the way you look at the marketplace and your job as well.
The week is designed to help educate and encourage people who do good work for organizations that are doing important work. If you think you qualify, I hope you'll read through the details below and then apply. (You'll find the application by clicking the picture at the bottom of this page).
Intense, practical and personal
Last year, I ran a six month program we called the "alternate MBA". It was a huge success. It changed me and the people who were in it. In six months, we covered a huge range of issues, from the academic to the practical, from bootstrapping to leadership. It was a huge commitment for me and for the extraordinary people who came, but it took a long time. What if, I wondered, I could create an intense miniature version, a nano-mba, something that we could do in just a week of focused hard work?
That's what this leveraged program is about. Find extraordinary people working in important organizations and give them insight and confidence to bring more leverage to their work, to allow them to use their jobs as a platform for making a difference. A difference at work, a difference to your co-workers and a difference to everyone who is touched by you.
Who should apply?
1. You can spend five days and nights in New York from May 17 through 21, 2010.
2. You currently work for a great boss who is willing to write you a recommendation after you make it through the initial screen.
3. The organization you work for makes the world a better place (it doesn't have to be a non-profit).
4. You speak English perfectly and have no trouble doing a lot of reading and writing.
5. You've read at least four of my books--so we can have a running start.
Why am I doing this (for free)?
There's nothing for sale here, no work I want you to do for me, no hidden research project. I hope others who can run something like this will do the same.
My mom spent the best years of her career doing important work for a non-profit. She combined an intuitive sense of the organization and its mission with a rigorous approach to getting things done. This week is in her memory.
What will we cover?
Decision making, story telling, leadership, creating remarkable ideas, managing and leading your boss, presenting ideas, closing the sale, evaluating opportunity costs and spreadsheets, emotional labor, shipping, the resistance and project management.
There will be solo and group work, lectures and most of all, spirited questions and conversations.
We don't have time for filler.
Logistics
Applications are due on March 31 at noon, New York time.
We'll choose a group of semi-finalists. If you're on the list, we'll email you on the morning of April 7th and ask you to send us a recommendation from your boss, and you'll have until the end of the day on April 12th to get it back to us.
We'll select finalists by April 19th and let you know.
Finalists will need to be at my office for a group info session and interview on the morning of April 26th. [UPDATE! We've changed the interview day to Friday May 14th. This way you only need to make one trip, not two. We'll let people know that day, and if you're in, you can enjoy a weekend in NY or do whatever you like, and if you're not in, you can enjoy a weekend in NY or go straight home. Less flying. IF you had your heart set on April 26th and you become a finalist, we're willing to see you then.]
And we'll choose the attendees by the next day. The entire process is going to be focused on finding some great people and doing it with alacrity. We might not come up with the perfect list, but I don't think there is a perfect list. We won't miss any deadlines and you can't either... sorry if that sounds harsh, but we're going to ship this on time!
PLEASE! Don't be creative in breaking these rules. Don't go over the transom or under the door or try to demonstrate your verve or commitment in any other way than using the application form (it's got plenty of room to express yourself). If you do, we'll have to quietly delete your efforts. Thanks for understanding.
ALSO: of course, room and board and airfare are not included. But you knew that.
AND: We're using Google docs to collect applications. We won't be confirming their arrival, but you will hear from us (everyone who applies will) when we choose the semi-finalists.

Public Q&A
If you have a question that I didn't answer here, please ask it. I'll answer each query below the question, or answer it elsewhere and the delete the question. Thanks!
Just to reiterate, the rules for applying are clear. If you're not sure if you're eligible, apply anyway, just be truthful. And of course, entrepreneurs and owners will be given a shot for an event in the future!
NOTE! I have been exhausted by hundreds of questions asking the same things. If you want to apply, apply. If your for profit company makes the world better through it's actual work, apply. The worst that will happen is that you'll get rejected. If you can't come to the interview, don't apply. And if you don't have a real job with a real boss, as I've stated earlier, then this isn't the program for you. Perhaps one day there will be one, but right now, this is what's on offer. Please don't hope for an exception. That's not fair to everyone who is following the directions.

- When taking care of a project might be not a too much simple job. We require to learn about project management before initiating true action. This one is a pretty article about design a successful project.
Thank you very much.

- Hi Seth,
As you say, >>>if you don't have a real job with a real boss, this isn't the program for you. Perhaps one day there will be one.'<<< Will you have a similar event in the future for entrepreneurs and owners? Like to look foward to the next opportunity. The following sentece caught my attention. I like it. >>>Why not change yourself and then change the world?<<<
This type of offer is very rare and people would be grateful for your time and kindness, just as your mother's time/work was appreciated. Thank you so very much. saachi

- This is very inspiring Seth, congratulations.
If I can one day be half way toward being able to give back in this way, that will be my career/life goal fulfilled.
NFP marketing, broadly speaking, is light years behind mainstream (having worked across both), and this is probably the greatest learning opportunity I've seen offered to the sector. Hopefully it reaches the people who need it most.
You can expect my application that's for sure.

- I love that you're dedicating the week in memory of the good work that your mom did with a nonprofit. I hope someday my teenage sons feel inspired by what I do. What an honor.

- 2 unrelated questions please. 1) If I am blunt about where I work when describing the 'mountain I am trying to move,' will my comments be confidential with you and your review committee? 2) If I don't have a Blog, Twitter or Facebook page, etc. (gasp- I know!), can I write text instead about me (like a brief bio) or would you rather links that talk about me even if outdated and spotty?

- What a great chance to put something online!
And yes, the applications are confidential and off the record, as is the entire week.

- I think this is very cool and am sorry I don't qualify (I'm an owner). Hope you'll do a similar project for those of us who are "the boss" but want to improve our skills and sharpen our abilities. Big fan since Big Red Fez and 2006 Innovative Marketing Conference.

- Hi Seth. Big fan here. I read every book you wrote. I hope you can create something for small business owners in the future. I own my own dental practice and it broke my heart to know that I do not qulify. What you write about is badly needed in the world and I would be the first to sign up if I could.
