Public Q&A

From the lens In search of high leverage.

If you have a question that I didn't answer here, please ask it. I'll answer each query below the question, or answer it elsewhere and the delete the question. Thanks!

Just to reiterate, the rules for applying are clear. If you're not sure if you're eligible, apply anyway, just be truthful. And of course, entrepreneurs and owners will be given a shot for an event in the future!

NOTE! I have been exhausted by hundreds of questions asking the same things. If you want to apply, apply. If your for profit company makes the world better through it's actual work, apply. The worst that will happen is that you'll get rejected. If you can't come to the interview, don't apply. And if you don't have a real job with a real boss, as I've stated earlier, then this isn't the program for you. Perhaps one day there will be one, but right now, this is what's on offer. Please don't hope for an exception. That's not fair to everyone who is following the directions.

When taking care of a project might be not a too much simple job. We require to learn about project management before initiating true action. This one is a pretty article about design a successful project.
    Thank you very much.

    Hi Seth,
As you say, >>>if you don't have a real job with a real boss, this isn't the program for you. Perhaps one day there will be one.'<<< Will you have a similar event in the future for entrepreneurs and owners? Like to look foward to the next opportunity. The following sentece caught my attention. I like it. >>>Why not change yourself and then change the world?<<<
This type of offer is very rare and people would be grateful for your time and kindness, just as your mother's time/work was appreciated. Thank you so very much. saachi

This is very inspiring Seth, congratulations.
If I can one day be half way toward being able to give back in this way, that will be my career/life goal fulfilled.

NFP marketing, broadly speaking, is light years behind mainstream (having worked across both), and this is probably the greatest learning opportunity I've seen offered to the sector. Hopefully it reaches the people who need it most.

You can expect my application that's for sure.

I love that you're dedicating the week in memory of the good work that your mom did with a nonprofit. I hope someday my teenage sons feel inspired by what I do. What an honor.
  • Sarah Mar 23, 2010 @ 9:26 pm | delete
2 unrelated questions please. 1) If I am blunt about where I work when describing the 'mountain I am trying to move,' will my comments be confidential with you and your review committee? 2) If I don't have a Blog, Twitter or Facebook page, etc. (gasp- I know!), can I write text instead about me (like a brief bio) or would you rather links that talk about me even if outdated and spotty?
  • sethgodin Mar 24, 2010 @ 5:26 am | delete
What a great chance to put something online!

And yes, the applications are confidential and off the record, as is the entire week.

    Seth,
This session has the potential to be a game changer for you and the people who participate. Keep up the great work. Mom would be proud.

I think this is very cool and am sorry I don't qualify (I'm an owner). Hope you'll do a similar project for those of us who are "the boss" but want to improve our skills and sharpen our abilities. Big fan since Big Red Fez and 2006 Innovative Marketing Conference.

This is just fabolous! This make me smile so much that the snow is melting here in Norway! Your my everyday hero. Hope I can be one of the eleven ones :-)

Hi Seth. Big fan here. I read every book you wrote. I hope you can create something for small business owners in the future. I own my own dental practice and it broke my heart to know that I do not qulify. What you write about is badly needed in the world and I would be the first to sign up if I could.

A wonderful idea. You should encourage this concept to spread to freelance professionals or service providers with a certain skill that is useful to non-profits: presentation design, accounting, PR, anything really, and encourage people to take a work week of their time and host a mini-MBA like this to transfer valuable skills and have fun at the same time.

Best of luck to all who apply.

Even the application experience is worth your time and effort! You will learn and gain a lot from your effort.

    For those that get selected...KUDO's!

For any of you that pass the criteria and are STILL on the fence...WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!

    Signed Respectfully,

    Scarlet (via Pat) Ferdinandi

Seth....great idea. For the first time in my entire life I wish I had a boss.....go figure!!! Next time do one for those of us who make a difference as an entrepreneur...I know in my work I change lives. Don't wait too long as I am getting old ! I love all your posts and ideas. Keep it coming.

I'm an owner and cannot participate. I just want you to know how much I'd like to and to tell you what a wonderful gesture this is. To your Mom, to the participants.

What about non-USA citizens who can be in NY the week of the MBA but can't be there on April 26th? Interview in Antwerp on April 1st?
  • sethgodin Mar 22, 2010 @ 5:09 pm | delete
Alas, to be fair, it has to be in person. Sorry
  • Tom2 Mar 22, 2010 @ 4:50 pm | delete
Hi Seth a) I'm Canadian. Any reason this makes me ineligible? and b) I'm a co-manager in a non-profit, so run the office but I have 12 "bosses" - my Board of Directors. Still fit the criteria?
    Many thanks,
    Tom
  • sethgodin Mar 22, 2010 @ 5:09 pm | delete
We love Canadians. Or people from anywhere. But alas, the board doesn't count.

    Hey Seth,
Did I miss something, or is the application not listed on this page?
    Thanks,

    Hi Seth,
2 questions: Is there an age specification?
I own my own business , does that work to apply?
  • sethgodin Mar 22, 2010 @ 3:59 pm | delete
You need to be 18, that's it. But no, alas, no bosses
  • MHW Mar 22, 2010 @ 3:43 pm | delete
I don't have the boss--I am the boss. Can I apply?
  • sethgodin Mar 22, 2010 @ 4:00 pm | delete
    I'm sorry, no.
  • Natasha Mar 22, 2010 @ 3:43 pm | delete
    Hi Seth,

What if you have a job offer but haven't started the job yet? My situation matches all the criteria, however I recieved a job offer that doesn't start until June due to the fact that I am finishing some freelancing work before I start. Can I still apply? Please say yes!
    Thanks!
  • sethgodin Mar 22, 2010 @ 4:00 pm | delete
    Sorry, no.
  • Founder Mar 22, 2010 @ 3:42 pm | delete
Are company owners eligible (company started less than 1 year ago)?
  • sethgodin Mar 22, 2010 @ 4:00 pm | delete
Alas, not this time. No founders.
  • Kevin Mar 22, 2010 @ 3:34 pm | delete
In your blog post you mentioned working for non-profits a requirement. I work for a software company that serves non-profits, Girl Scouts, YMCAs across the country, am I elegible?
  • sethgodin Mar 22, 2010 @ 4:00 pm | delete
This is just great. Book publishers are okay too!
