High Paying Part-Time Jobs: 5 Opportunities For 2012

Is the economy getting better? For many people, the answer is NO. People are turning to part-time jobs as a method of getting extra income to make ends meet.

The problem is if you are already working and earning an average or above average amount of money, what kind of part-time jobs pay enough to make it worth your time?

I put this lens together for some ideas on finding a high paying part-time job opportunity. Most of these jobs can be found in any small-medium or large metro area around the country.

Not all part time work is low pay. In fact, you can make some respectable money working part time, just like I did.

High Paying Job #1- Sales Associates $12-$30 per hour

In this case, I am referring to sales associates in certain parts of retail businesses. These kind of positions are held, part-time, by respectable people usually earning decent money in their primary job or career. Wages range from $12-$30 per hour or more. Schedules tend to be flexible, and the best time to work for these jobs are after 5pm and weekends. These jobs are often overlooked by most people or thought to be low paying when in fact they are NOT low paying.

Some of these jobs even offer benefits including insurance and investment plans. Other benefits can include merchandise discounts and special buying opportunities. Often you can direct part of your earnings into a 401(K) plan and get matching dollars from the company, even as a part time employee!

High Paying Job #2- Delivery Services $9-$10 per Hour with Excellent Benefits

Another overlooked, high paying opportunity is delivery companies. One company in particular offers a lower hourly wage, but extremely good benefits including low cost, health insurance, 401(k) with matching plans, college tuition benefits and regular, generous wage increases. Shifts usually start early in the morning around, and end at 8 or 9am.

Often, this might involve some lifting, but there are many people I know that have worked this kind of job for years, simply because of the benefits.

High Paying Job #3- Medical Studies & Donation $15-$20 Per Hour

Most of these opportunities are not highly advertised and draw professionals, blue-collar workers, housewives, older folks and students.

A larger, national company routinely offers pay for physical donation that amounts to $20-$30 per hour! Other benefits of physical studies and donation include free physicals and other perks.

High Paying Job #4- After Hours Floor Cleaning $15-$18 Per Hour

If you can handle working after hours, there is a BIG need for people to clean floors at retail stores, medical facilities and some offices. This job is not all that difficult, and in the world of cleaning jobs, pays fairly well. Normally the job involves dust mopping, sweeping, using a scrubber and buffer to shine up the floor. There is an added twist to this job, which I explain in my free list, that allows you to make even more money.

This kind of job works well if you don't want a lot of human interaction, and the time goes by very fast. Many small and large service companies in your area are looking for people to do floor cleaning. You could be one of them too.

High Paying Job #5- Tipped Jobs $10-$30 per hour

Tipped jobs are an excellent part-time opportunity if you know which offer the best pay. It is also helpful to know which of these tipped positions pay the best, and which to avoid.

This kind of job requires people-skills and some physical activity including lifting, walking and moving table to table. Tipped jobs might also include delivery such as pizza or carry out.

Some Part Time Jobs To AVOID If You Can Help It

  • Day-Labor- Usually very low pay, very hard work.

  • Production Work- Because they hire part-time workers for the worst jobs in the plant.

  • Telemarketing-Although there are some good opportunities, most offer low hourly wages and tough products or services to sell with unattainable sales goals for most people.

  • Pizza Delivery- Margins are getting lower for pizza companies, and college students and low-income families do not tip very well.

  • Most cashier jobs- Low pay, boring work.

A Job Alternative- Starting Your Own Low-Risk Business

Another way to get extra money is to start your own low-risk business. I emphasize "low-risk" because if you are low on money, you don't want to get involved in some kind of high risk opportunity that might fail from the get-go. This means you should look into staple businesses that are proven to work. (3) that come to mind are:

  • Home services- If you have skills that others are willing to pay for, you have an instant business just waiting to happen. People, even in this economy, still need things cleaned, repaired and serviced.

  • Buying and selling- Find things people don't want and sell them at your own garage sale, flea market or ebay.
  • Direct product sales- Pick a direct sales company like Amway and plug into tested methods of selling products. There is nothing wrong with selling and if you are good at it, you can earn a very serious amount of extra income.
