The Ringtone that only Teens can Hear

It was bound to happen eventually...now it's causing a raging ruckus.

Teachers' biggest concern used to be backtalk and chewing gum in class. Now it seems they don't have enough to do - they have to worry about noises they can't even hear.

A new cellphone ring tone, an invention stolen from a device intended to discourage teen loitering, is so high pitched that people with hearing range deficits, generally older adults, can't hear it. Compared to the highest note on a piano being ranked at a 4, this tone is ranked right around 17, making just the thought of it equally annoying as the sound.

Click here to read the New York Times article on mosquito ringtones, which features a frequency chart that compares age ranges with average hearing ability, and just how highly pitched the mosquito ringtone is.
