What Are Goji Berries?
Goji berries are also known as Lycium Barbarum. There many types of goji berries around the world, but the one that has get oeveryone's attention originates from an area in Himalaya.
Legend has it that the Himalayans are using berries long before anyone did. To them, living over 100 years old is not uncommon. People in their 60s are EXPECTED to be able to ride a horse up the moutains to pick these precious fruit. The 70s in our society can't even stand properly.
The chinese, indian and tibetian later heard about this seemingly miraculous fruit and so they journeyed across the world to find out more. What they saw impressed them so much, they brought some of goji berry's seeds and planted them for use in their everyday life.
The goji plant is extremely adaptable to the climate and environmental changes. They can survive at temperatures ranging from -27 degress celcius to about 40 degrees celcius. Although goji berries can practically grow anywhere with soil, not all are made equal.
The reason why people are always looking for Himalayan goji berries is because the soil there are full of minerals and therefore produced better quality goji berries.... unlike our mineral-deficient soil in developed countries.
The Main Benefits Of Goji Berries
There are basically three main benefits of goji berries.1. It contains high antioxidant
2. Supports immune system
Antioxidants protects your healthy cells from destructive free radicals. Free radicals are basically the reason for aging. Therefore the antioxidant you have, the more protection against free radicals and thus slows aging.
So why goji berries? I can just eat vitamin E for antioxidants. First, please check that your vitamin E is pure. If it is manufactured by large companies, it is probably not. Second, goji berries contains the largest amount of antioxidant in ANY fruit and vegetables.
1. It has 500 times more vitamin C per ounce than oranges.
2. It contains more beta carotene than carrots.
3. It contains vitamin B1, B2, B6 and E
4. It is the only fruit that contains germainium.
There are so many other vitamins and minerals in it. This is probably the most beneficial fruit you can consume.
For immune support, goji contains a range of polysaccharides (LBP), which are responsible for regulating immunity. In fact, it is about 8% of the content. Goji also induce the production of g-interferon in humans. These interferon has been shown to suppress or even kill cancer cells, which with germanium, is a very deadly combo to the cancer. Germanium take away hydrogen ion away from cancer cell, which are essential to its living.
How To Use Goji?
Goji is sweet and delicious. I personally prefer it over orange. Therefore I make many of my daily food with goji berries. In the morning, I like to drink a blend of goji berry juice, a raw egg and a tablespoon of coconut oil. It is sooo delicious.
You can also make cookies, ice cream, sultanas, you name it you can probably make it. I especially like goji ice cream.
Check out the recipe book below for some great recipes.
However, I would suggest that you either juice them or eat them RAW. They are delicious and no living enzymes will die in the process of cooking.
