Outside Bollywood

To me, the best non-Bollywood music makers have been the Indian group Euphoria whose music is a unique blend of folk, pop and rock. They famously coined the term 'Hindrock' which to some extent epitomises the music of many non-film music groups (that I like at least!) This lens is a sampling of some such efforts.

Best of Euphoria

So why dont we begin with Euphoria. They were by no means the first or the last, but they are hands-down the most well-known in this underappreciated genre of music. By blending folk, rock and pop they have managed not only to create a unique sound but have also brought a their music to a wider audience.

The genius of A R Rahman

While Rahman composed the song 'Maa Tujhe Salaam', his versions of the popular anthems 'Jana Gana Mana' (the national anthem), and the two Vande Matarams helped breathe new life into them.

My lenses on Squidoo

Unusual Love songs
For music lovers of all ages and of all genres, this lens is an attempt to tap into the originality of song writers and singers who have the vision and heart to write about love as they have experienced it and not as the bubblegum, peppy, pop matra that it has turned into.
Children's Rights
To most people, children's rights conjures up situations of anarchy where children demand the most outrageous things from parents who are bound by the notion of rights to provide for them at all costs. Legally speaking however, children's rights are certain entitlements that children can make on part of the state and their families.
Goa
This lens is my tribute to the land of my forefathers, to its natural beauty and the warmth and hospitality of its people. It is an attempt to capture what is becoming an increasingly rare commodity -- the love of the land and the language, the joy of life and simple living, and the desire for peace.
Best Movie Soundtracks
I remember the first time I was captivated by the background score of a movie. It was a serialised version of The Godfather being aired on local telly in India when I was 7. I distinctly remember stopping my father from changing the channel even though the end credits were rolling because I wanted to listen to the haunting music.
Best of Bollywood
A lot has been written about the Hindi film industry -- from the controversy to its being called 'Bollywood' (an obvious play on 'Hollywood' and some might say, a discreet reference to the blatant plagarism of American films) to the growing worldwide audience driven by Non-Resident Indians and the amazing response it has received from the global audience.
Best Movie Scenes
Ever watched a movie and found a scene that stays with you long after the final credits roll...a scene so powerful that you watch the movie over and over again just to relive the feelings that well up inside? Well, you are in for a treat, my friends, for this lens will showcase the best film sequences of all time.
