Hints In Relation To Profitable School Fundraising

In the current economic climate, many schools are having difficulty in having sufficient funds to operate as they previously did. Unfortunately, as a result, favorite programs and many sports activities have had to be discontinued. Concerned parents and others have come forth with the idea of school fundraising.

In previous years, when funds were needed for band uniforms, a football trip, or some other activity, parents came forth with bake sales, raffles and dinners. This interested the school members, the parents and the children and the money needed was raised. Unfortunately, a lot more money is needed today and it needs to be gathered quickly.

There are a number of excellent techniques, that are used by large organizations, to raise money from the community, and it pays to look at their methods. The purpose of the fundraiser, as well as the amount of money needed, is the first thing to be considered. Once a figure is in mind, then it can be estimated how many different events will be needed to raise the needed amount.

Usually such an event starts out with the gathering of a few people who are concerned about the school and its needs. This is the start of a good working team. In addition to the original group, some influential and well-known people, in the community, should be invited to join in. These people not only have community connections, they can often get discounts for needed supplies. Everyone should know they are welcome to join the group and that their ideas and comments are welcome.

Once the team decides on an event then it is very important that things such as advertising, securing a location, supplies and other necessities be determined. Volunteers are asked to do various things such as, if it is a dinner, purchase food, prepare it, set up, serve and clean up. If everyone does a small part or works together, this is how lifelong friendships are often formed.

Dinners take a lot of work but can be successful if handled in a professional manner. Some formal affairs take bids on desserts or raffle items. These usually are rather expensive dinner tickets so something other than spaghetti must be served. A general dinner, at a reasonable price, can also be profitable, especially if there is a raffle. A donation box or donation envelopes on the tables should always be available for those who wish to give a little more.

The old methods of fundraising by having the children sell magazines, wrapping paper and other things no longer is effective. However, getting them interested and involved in an event will motivate them and, in turn, motivate their parents. Something such as having them draw posters, make signs and take part in the event makes them feel that they are helping the school as well.

Many thousands of dollars have been raised for schools through successful school fundraising and, if approached correctly, one will have the entire community looking forward to the next event. This not only helps the school but also provides a valuable bond between the community and the school, which is the basis for success in human relations.
