Ebooks can do a lot for your business. They can provide free information to your customers; they can help establish your credibility as an expert in your niche market and they can be used to spread your links to a waiting audience of prospective clients.

To be really effective a good ebook needs to be focused on your specific niche or service. This does not mean it has to be about you (unless you are really interesting :)) but rather it needs to show that you know a bit about the market you are in. It also needs to be informative. Even though you might be offering the book as a free gift (in exchange for signing up to you list, or as a bonus if they buy a product or service) it still needs to give the reader some value: otherwise they are going to feel cheated.

Any decent ebook will also have some structure to it. Even short ebooks, often known as reports, need to have a TOC, a Copyright and Disclaimer page, an About the Author page (yes that would be you) and then at least three chapters of content. I also like to finish up ebooks with a Concluding Comments page which can be used as a "Call to Action" or simply be a summary of the services/products you can provide for your customers.

Usually I like to write ebooks up to 50 pages long, but I have written a lot that were both shorter and longer than that. Its funny, I did a search on my hard drive the other day and I have draft copies of 68 ebooks I have ghostwritten for clients - 68 of them! Depending on the topic matter a well-written 50 page ebook would cost you around $USD800.00 and take a week to ten days to complete. This includes any revisions, internal graphics and other pictorial elements to help break up the text, and the pages mentioned above.

Since I have gotten older I make a conscious decision to do what I love doing every day. And I am lucky that writing is one of those things. Over the years I have written about topics as diverse as Ghosts and Spirits, to pregnancy and well being; a stack of self-help topics; internet marketing, business and working from home.

I don't take on projects that I either don't know anything about, or don't think I would be interested in personally and I think that decision means that when I have finished writing a particular ebook that it will somehow be infused with my own excitement about the topic - and that makes it easier to read. I also only work with one client at a time - I had my time working for three or more at once and my whole life went haywire - I prefer a lot less stress and to take a bit more time in what I do now.
