Historical Ingredients in Skin Care
Historically, natural skin care was used as far back as 1000 BC. Whipped Ostrich eggs, olive oil and milk were just a few of the ingredients used by the Ancient Egyptians as skin care. Galens Work and Historical Input
Galen, a Greek physician, was born in Pergamos in Asia Minor in the year 131 C.E. He received medical training in Smyrna and Alexandria. When his time as the surgeon to the gladiators of Pergamos was over he was summoned to Rome as the physician of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Galen spent the rest of his life at the Court writing an enormous corpus of medical works until his death in 201 C.E.Galen was known for developing a Cold cream from olive oil, beeswax, water and rose petals. It was known to have cooling effects on the skin.
Modern Day Thoughts
Today, truly natural skin care made from herbs, essential oils, clays, roots, flowers, and honey, mixed with naturally occurring carriers and preservatives will always be the best option. It's logical that products made using ingredients derived from nature and produced for use with as little human interference as possible are kinder to your skin. Differing approaches from manufacturers
In recent years naturally derived skin care and cosmetics have come down in price, but generally good quality doesn't come cheap. Manufacturers of what I would term "Unnatural" cosmetics are as an example, using "mineral oil" instead of vegetable oil in their products as a "cheaper" alternative. Claims by manufacturers that you will "Look Younger" have impressed Women to the point of creating a multi billion dollar Per Annum industry. Unfortunately Future Health considerations are not mentioned in marketing claims. Cast your vote
