Study Historical Oboes and Reedmaking
It can certainly be a challenge to understand these ancient, historical, or vintage oboes. Where did they come from? How did they evolve? Who played them? What did they sound like? What about the reeds? Since there are no recordings, we rely on treatises, texts, letters and the musical compositions themselves for clues as to how these instruments sounded and how we might go about playing them today.

Humidify the Space not the Case: If Your Heat is Coming on, Check and Take Care of Your Oboe
A. Laubin of NY recommends that we keep the environment humid rather than the case. Check the humidity in your house, you may be surprised by how low it is in the winter. I have used one of these for years.
