Study Historical Oboes and Reedmaking
One of the more difficult things to do is figure out what these ancient, historical, and vintage oboes were all about. Where did they come from? How did they evolve? Who played them? What did they sound like? What about the reeds? Since there are no recordings, we rely on treatises and texts on the subject as well as the music for clues as to how these instruments sounded and how we might go about playing them today.

"In the past decade or so, after some hundred and fifty years of neglect, ornamentation of Baroque music has again become widely accepted. Humidify the Space not the Case: If Your Heat is Coming on, Check and Take Care of Your Oboe
A. Laubin of NY recommends that we keep the environment humid rather than the case. Check the humidity in your house, you may be surprised by how low it is in the winter. I have used one of these for years.
