NEW SALE!!!

I'm thrilled to have just sold my latest historical romance, MEGGIE'S REMAINS, A Romance to Die For, to Five Star for their Expressions Line. This book, set in 1874 Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado Territory, is scheduled for a July, 2009 release.

I'm also thrilled to tell you that I've been put "on the list" to sign A...MY NAME'S AMELIA, in the Romance Writers of America booth, at BookExpo America, held at the LA convention center, June 1st. The trade show for booksellers and librarians is a big event and I'm thrilled to be going. Thank you RWA!!!

Wonderful writers, Susan Wiggs, Suzanne Lyon, and Alice Duncan have given me author quotes for THE PARLOR HOUSE DAUGHTER!

Matchmaker, Matchmaker, set in 1867 Golden City, is the romantic tale of a young immigrant doctor and the hardships she confronts, struggling with religious differences and love in the rugged Colorado Territory.

A...My Name's Amelia, set in 1880 Colorado Springs, is the romantic tale of a young deaf woman and her marriage to a rancher she's never met.  (Soon out in Large Print, too!)

The Parlor House Daughter is set in 1880 Denver, with the heroine born in 1863 Nevada City, Colorado Territory; born in a pine shack, a crib, at the end of the line in the red light district; bound by birth to the world of prostitution.

"The Parlor House Daughter is a compelling story of the Old West, and an unexpected romance, evoking the distant past while celebrating the timeless wonder of the healing power of love." Susan Wiggs, NYT bestselling author

The Parlor House Daughter offers up a heroine as vulnerable as she is spunky.  Born into the sporting life, beautiful Rebecca Rose captures the heart of the dashing Morgan Larkspur...and the reader's, too."  Suzanne LyonSuzanne Lyon~A Heart For Any Fate "...evokes with gripping realism time, place and pioneer hearts."

And from noted author Alice Duncan: "They were worlds apart.  She grew up with the brutal truth, he with lies.  Together, swept up in conflicts neither saw coming, their new-found love is tested against dangerous secrets from the past.  Joanne writes the best stories!  This one is no exception."  Alice Duncan~bestselling, award-winning author

I cannot thank these noted, talented, generous writers enough!

A...My Name's Amelia (Five Star Expressions) (Five Star Expressions) (Five Star Expressions)

Deafened at a young age, her natural-born means of expression taken from her, Amelia Anne Polley must learn to communicate all over again. More than her ability to hear was taken from her, on the fateful day she fell ill in 1874. Left to grow up in frontier territory, at the Colorado Institute for the Education of Mutes, Amelia is determined to live the life she'd dreamed for herself, before becoming deaf. Her dreams do not include becoming anyone's mail-order bride, especially the handsome, roughened rancher Aaron Zachary's.

Amelia has reasons enough not to marry Aaron, not the least of which she and the weathered cowboy are complete strangers. Different in ways that count, for any man and wife, Amelia and Aaron surely won't suit. Why, they have nothing in common-except secrets-secrets neither wants to reveal to the other, and risk what might happen.

Beyond the language of speech and sign, of reading and writing, and informed expression, is another language, one speaking to emotion and passion, a language far more intimate, and oftentimes, harder to learn. Only if Amelia and Aaron can find their way out of their troubled pasts, overcoming hardship and heartache, will they find their way to each other, and learn to speak the same language-of love.

Five Star Expressions - Matchmaker, Matchmaker (Five Star Expressions)

A Jewish girl of nine, Zoe-Esther Zundelevich gives in to fancy and secretly visits the village matchmaker before leaving Russia with her papa, Yitzhak, for refuge in Amerika. The matchmaker gives Zoe-Esther the name of her promised match, when she is of age. Zoe-Esther dreams of him, carrying her dreams across the ocean and into womanhood.

Times are hard but Zoe-Esther manages the impossible and becomes one of the few women to graduate from medical school in 1867 Philadelphia. Afraid for her papa's life when he's stricken with tuberculosis, she moves him to the Colorado Territory in search of a cure. All she holds dear, Zoe-Esther can never jeopardize her papa's health and happiness. That is precisely what she faces when rugged, handsome Jake Whiskey comes into her life. She must not give in to her attraction to a rake, a gambler, a non-Jew! It would kill her papa, who wants her to marry "nice Daniel Stein." But the name given Zoe-Esther long ago wasn't Daniel. It wasn't Jake either, no matter how much she might wish it.

It's not easy to find work, shelter, or enough food in Golden City, where people don't want a woman doctor and can't say too much good about Jews either. Zoe-Esther has faced hard times before, but never with so much at stake. When she at last meets her match, can she risk losing the man who now has her heart? Can she sacrifice her own happiness for her papa's?

Hello!

Before I was a historical romance writer, I was a mother; before that a wife; before that a nurse; before that ... I've no idea!

I've three historical romances to date, with Five Star-Thomson Gale under their Five Star Expressions line.  They are MATCHMAKER, MATCHMAKER (1/06), A...MY NAME'S AMELIA (3/07), and THE PARLOR HOUSE DAUGHTER (12/08).

Five Star Expressions is a combination of Women's Fiction and Romance.  I'm currently a member of Romance Writers of America, Women Writing the West, Colorado Romance Writers, and Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers.

I was born in Virginia but live Rocky Mountain High now with my husband, two cats, and two dogs.  My three children are grown and off on their own adventures.

I hope to interest romance readers in my books, of course!  I also hope to help advance the "cause," not to mention "genre," of historical romance set in the West!  Let's BOOK IT together!

My best,

Joanne Sundell
