Roswell was essentially built by Roswell King from Darien, Georgia.

Roswell King (1765-1844), a native of New England, for many years maaged the Pierce Butler coastal plantations in Glynn and
McIntosh Counties. During the 1830's, when he was in his seventies, he founded the north Georgia town of Roswell where he established
Roswell textile mills which ultimately became the bread basket for this region. While a resident of Darien, he constructed homes and commercial structures utilizing the popular building material known as tabby. He also helped Thomas Spalding to build his mansion on Sapelo Island. Ultimately, he became a landowner and was a broker of cotton, rice and lumber. He served as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives and was a lieutenant in the local militia. In 1he was married Catherine Barrington (1776-1839) in Darien and by her had nine children.

Barrington Hall (well house)Barrington Hall has a number of out-buildings associated with it. A meat house and well remain on the property, along with a sample cotton patch.
