You will Love Savannah!

Savannah was founded in 1733 by James Edward Oglethorpe. He was one of the 22 speculators (trustees) in a venture to raise a colony which would produce silk as fine as the Chinese. His contribution was his personal services as a colonizer, later General of the land forces in England's War with Spain. He was in Georgia fifteen years and never slept anywhere but inside a tent. These lovely homes and tidbits about some of the first colonial characters will entertain you. Some of the first last will and testaments were 50 pages long! Where to Find Chatham County Wills, Estates, Documents
Extensive inventories, personal notes, farm equipment and other property make it quite clear that the first colonials to Savannah created a fantastic economy! If you have not already, you must visit downtown Savannah...the old cotton factories, old homes and ride the riverboat to get a taste of the past.
