Notebooking Our Way Through History

History Index

This is were I'm building our History studies. I'm so tired of jumping around from site to site. Finding a good resource here n there but later forgetting were it was at. My favorite bookmark folder is bulging and later on I can never remember why I bookmarked that page. This is so much better: I can sort all my links my topic and write down a short description for future use. This page is going to act as my History Index page to all my lens'. I can't wait to get started....

Our Early American History

Overview

Our American History this year is based off of an online free curriculum located at Guest Hallow. She has done a ton of work putting together a full year of early American history topics. I loved her ideas but needed to tailor it to fit our lives. I used her topic titles, schedule template and some of her book choices. I've also added more crafts, activities, notebooking and lapbooking ideas. Since I have a full science curriculum for the year, I dropped all science topics she had listed. I've created a lens per topic and have listed all the resources I have right now. As we work through each topic I may change a book or resource here-n-there, as I do so I will change the lens to relfect that.

Resources Needed All Year

Below is a list of resources that I plan to use for more than one topic. These are items that I've purchased or already had on hand. I feel that they add depth to our studies. I'll try to list these on the individual topic pages as well.

* Note of the History Pockets.
When I purchased these items, I wasn't aware that the mini-books would be front-to-back on a page and thus requiring me to photocopy each page. I wrongly assumed that all I would have to do is cut the projects out. If like me you have a printer that drains the ink, you might consider purchasing two of every book. Another option, is to purchase the Time Travelers CD's from Homeschool In The Woods. I would have purchased these items but didn't have enough funds after buying the history pockets. They appear to be a better product and as the year progresses I may purchase them yet. You would still need to print them off, so consider that before purchasing.

My library has these four. Good advice someone gave me, always check your library first.
