Classic Casino Game

Roulette is one of the casino's true classics, and it's a rare casino that doesn't have it. But roulette was not always exactly the way it appears to us now. There were several different changes the game went through over the centuries before it finally became our beloved classic.

Roulette in Europe

How Roulette was played and formed in Europe

Before the game of roulette was actually invented, there were other games that bore a resemblance to roulette. There were games played in Europe, especially in England, Italy and France. These games featured a wheel, sometimes multi-colored, as well as a small ball. A few of these early games may have been used to create the game we now know as roulette.

The term roulette comes from the French word meaning little wheel. The game of roulette began in a slightly different form centuries ago in France. The most famous mathematician from France at the time, Blaise Pascal, is believed to have originally invented the game.

Paris was the first place that a roulette wheel appeared in a casino in 1796. The game was popular with casino goers, and started to crop up outside this first casino. During the 1800s roulette first appeared in the United States, proving just as popular there as it had been in France. But, because the house edge was so small, one extra numbered space created a game with much better odds for the casino. This was the beginning of American roulette.

When gambling and casinos were illegal in France, the game became popular elsewhere. Hamburg, Germany, was a special hotspot for the game. Roulette players flocked to Hamburg to play the game, and took the idea of roulette with them when they left. Soon roulette was spreading throughout the world.

With gambling legalized in France, most games could be played anywhere, except for roulette. The game was allowed to be played only in Monte Carlo. This rule restricted the game until 1933. At that time, roulette could be played anywhere in France, and it has been played in casinos across the country ever since.

Roulette and the Internet

How the internet has changed gambling and the game of roulette in many different ways

The internet has moved the game of roulette into another incarnation. The rise of internet casinos has meant that virtual roulette is available for play at all times. Players no longer have to make a trip to a land based casino in order to get in their roulette play time. Gamblers have the choice between traveling to a casino or staying put and playing in a virtual one.

The internet has also brought the player a wide variety of roulette systems to choose from. These systems are something relatively new for the average gambler, who once would not have had access to these types of systems. The information age has made these accessible, finally, by anyone who seeks the information. There are many, many systems on the market, and some do fall short when it comes to real winnings. Which is best to read reviews of people's first hand experience with such systems. A site highly recommended worth your reading is: Roulette Systems and Reviews features a free system and comprehensive reviews.
